I couldn't find the text either.
I do remember the discussion on whichever thread it was and I remeber Gary saying that the fairing is placed where it is for styling reasons. It just didn't look right when it was moved further outboard. The way round it is to use either a bench seat back as already suggested, or lower narrower seats that leave a gap between the top of the seat and the bottom of the head fairing to divert the eye away from the slight mismatch.
