What air filters have you fitted? Years ago when I fitted a V8 in my Berli I bolted K and N filters to the S.U. carbs. I thought with the small stub still in place and now inside the filter that the air would flow OK. However on a visit to a rolling road I was advised to fit the long U bend pipe to each carb then a cone filter, and it did make the engine run smoother. Perhaps this is the cause of the gasp?
