I replaced the rear gaz dampers supplied by marlin with some protech ones that were a little longer to get a usable ride height so I have a pair of the dampers that are 330mm/13 inches that have been sitting around a while but are basically unused but by the sounds of it you're having the same problem that caused me to replace them in the first place.
