Default Smiths temperature gauge

Having looked for a while to find a decent s/h Smiths water temperature gauge I finally decided I am not going to find one and so will have to buy new. I would heve preffered a s/h one with a bit of patina but all those I have seen are missing the lamps and fixing kit or have the wrong bezel etc, etc. It's suprising how many variations there were.

I thought buying a new one would be easy. No. All the new Smiths temperature gauges seem to have the wrong temperature range with the max being 140 deg c which is a bit silly..... It means the actual useful range of the gauge is very small.
They used to be 110 deg c which is more correct. I suspect, for the sake of economy, they are using the same mechanism as for the oil temperature gauge which does need to go up to 140.

Doh. Back to the drawing board....
