Rene. I had considered painting those self tappers, but now I know it irritates you, I'm just gonna leave them! :-)

Mick, you sent me that before, and I put it on my watch list, but I've been so busy I missed it twice!
Patience ( I don't have any) is a good thing, and the seller has dropped the price by a pound, so I'll see about it this time round!

Well, the cheshire cat phase never lasted long, as disaster has struck in a big way.
When I came to drive the car back to the tent last night, I noticed there had been an electrical short among all the spaghetti wires hanging about under the dash.
I usually hit the cut off switch, but for once did not, big mistake.
I managed to start and drive the car into the tent, thinking I'll sort this out in the morning.
On closer inspection its much worse than I thought, it looks like some of the earth wires in the loom have shorted and got so hot as to melt some of the loom together in a melted black twisted mess.
Chris has kindly offered to send me a Spitfire loom, but as yet I am still working to strip the out binding off the loom to see what the damage is, and if anything can be salvaged.
Auf wedersein Stoneleigh yet again.
I will post when I have more details , boo hoo. :-(

Why have you stuck them on crooked? :-)
Glad to see that Rene can still find negative things to say
Nicely doctored photo, the original made you look like the dance from the Happy Mondays

Thanks froggyman, once its wired up right, it shouldn't happen, as all the wires will be in their correct places, but at the moment they are all over the place, hence the F.U. !
Of the three fuses on the car, none of the the little buggers blew,
bless 'em!
On the positive side, and there always is one, I have a warm day and bright sunshine to work in, so I'll crack on!
The burnt out mess I'm looking at.........

It's not negative...........only pointing out details as Scottie put a lot of effort in those details..........just helping remember it.

I know Scottie,but i wrote I'll keep my mouth shut...........not my fingers
Bummer about the wiring, still think you did a great job...............but the selftappers must be painted.......
Also think there are too much wires,a stock Ford popular had only 8 wires and no fuses, omly a main switch.........worked out well.

Bad luck Scottie, nasty sticky smelly mess.
The only way is to sort slowly through and locate the burnt circuits. Replacing them with new cables. Hopefully the cables are the correct colours otherwise it will be ten times harder.
I have always gone for the lean, basic wiring. I run three 7 core cables, one to the engine, one for the front lights and one for the back lights. That's it. They meet up behind the dash and make their connections to switches and fuses.
I accept early cars didn't have fuses but I can't see an issue incorporating some spade (blade?) fuses to cover the supplies and basic circuits. Those porcelain fuses with strips on the outside and little pointed brass contacts each end are terrible, the least reliable device ever. Source of more electrical faults than any other cause I would say.
I flattened my Marlin battery last night because I forgot to switch off the main switch as I normally do, I was so tired after finishing the grill. This morning it refused to turn over so I had to jump it off a spare battery.

That's bad news Scottie. On a positive note the wiring will be much better after you've spent time on it - just like the other good jobs you've done on this build.
And it gives an opportunity to get rid of the Lego brick connectors.
Is it worth hiding a modern fuse box or breakers somewhere out of the way?
