Yes, but only on the early USAF versions - (less grunt needed to drop pilot to safety and no tail strike to worry about) - great idea at 60k feet, but was quickly changed after a mishap or two at low level.

There was an issue with the German Air Force losing a lot of aircraft due to their poor training strategy, but generally the 'Widowmaker' safety record was no worse than many other 'hot ships' of the time...

(The Danes didn't loose one operationally apparently, due to ensuring their pilots logged 500 hours in the F5 before transitioning onto the F104)

Yes, I remember the Luftwaffe losing a lot of Starfighters. Perhaps they found a way round the tuv test which making them inherently unsafe was.

Many thanks lancelot link.

Would like to discuss the possibility of adding some extras that we talked about previously. Is it best to 'PM'?

I'm sure you do. A picture can really help solve a lot of issues.

As I haven't been down to see the conversion process in action I wasn't exactly sure what had to be ripped out and what could stay.

(Thanks for posting Lancelot)

...need floating sills with weather like ours!

Well done on getting round the problems..

I was planning to do more of the conversion myself at one time, but the thought of standing around for hours in the rain scratching my head trying to figure out what I had done wrong and trying to figure out a fix while catching pneumonia just put me off, so have left it to the experts.

I'm sure there'll be lots left for me to f**k up when it gets here.

Default Armageddon

I read elsewhere this is some way off being legalised , but worrying all the same, what would the impact be on us, we lose historic status?
Wonder if it would be retrospective or just wipe us out....
Any impact on Sammio Future et all rebuilds...

Although states cannot 'cherry pick' EU legislation it may be that the UK will go along only in part if not completely.

The UK actually has a reputation of 'gold plating' EU legislation making quite sensible rules into rigid stupidity.

Hmm, I would tend to disagree with that in respect of vehicle regulations. At the moment we have a great deal of freedom to build and modify motor vehicles.

I can't see any UK Government (so long as we don't vote the Green party in) adopting that particular Draconian bit of EU legislation as it stands. Tens of thousands of voters own or aspire to owning modified cars and it would instantly kill thousands of businesses that modify cars or supply the industry, including some high profile companies that sell very expensive armoured limousines to MP's.

Bear in mind that, the way it's written, the Armageddon thing would prohibit you from even fitting a different wheel and tyre combination or spraying your vehicle another colour (thereby altering its appearance) virtually every second hand BMW and Corsa would have to be scrapped.

There's also the matter of the UK having a long history of not applying new legislation retrospectively to existing vehicles - no seatbelts needed in pre '65 cars, only one brake light needed on pre '71 cars etc.

So, scary though it is, I can't see our Government buying into something that's going to adversely affect the UK economy or disaffect tens of thousands of voters. I hope...
