Who you using for insurance?

I just got a renewal from Adrian Flux and its bit on the high side for my liking so I need to get some competitive quotes. I've got Footman James on this list to try, anyone else worth calling?

I find these annual increases a bore, both car and house, my mr2 and sportster are with adrian flux, the mr2 was due today and they quoted £408, after speaking to them (very helpful) and saying I had quotes of around £260 they dropped to £295, so give them a call, for classic RH are really good, our 1983 SL comes down most years and is now under £200 which includes agreed valuation, roadside help, otherwise we find admiral very good as well. I understand that Footman James has changed and now part of a bigger group who just follow the eurobox "tick box rules".

Try Peter James who was the "James" part of the company. According to my classic car friends he is very competitive and understands "our" cars. Peter.

I'm using Frank Pickles. £120 a year to insure the 5EXI.

A curious aspect of Footman James' policy is that it will NOT cover a car used on the track, even if you DO NOT want the insurance to cover track use! I found this out when enquiring about the renewal for my policy.

It might be that other companies have the same clause which isn't very clear unless you read the small print very closely.

Patrick, I have just looked at the Marlin mag and they have the following companies advertising for our business in there.

They are :-

www.2gfs.com ; www.sureterm.com and of course Footman james and Adrian Flux.

In the "Complete KITCAR mag" there is :-

www.performancedirect.co.uk : www.graham-sykes.co.uk
www.msminsurance.co.uk : www.aplan.co.uk

I have used Adrian Flux from the beginning including build up insurance. I had to threaten them with a lower quote from someone else about 2 years ago.. But this year they were competitive and I couldn't find much better.
Graham Sykes came quite close but were very off about agreed value. They insisted on 6 photographs printed on photographic paper before they would even quote for it. When I queried their less than clear email quotation their agent wrote very sarcastically "I think we are getting a bit confused". And when I asked for my MOC discount they said it was already included in the quote.
Needless to say, they didn't get my business!

To be honest the builds that have started are giving me the itch again... I've been building RC planes instead which keeps the costs down : http://www.modelog.co.uk

I've just re-insured Vikki with 2Gether - they're a broker that advertise with and offer discounts to the MOC.

I had my renewal from Adrian Flux - £360. It's gone up a bit, but to be fair it's roughly the same as last year. I put this down to my little accident last February.

But, as I had some time on my hands at work, I rang round. 2Gether quoted me £160 for the same level of insurance, even after informing them of last year's claim.

So I jumped at it - and then rang AF to cancel the renewal. They did their usual bit of trying to retain me, and asked how much the new insurance was. They agreed it was a good deal, and counter offered £162. £198 reduction, just like that. I asked them if they could do the renewal for that price, why try and charge me more than double?

Silence.

Ah well - I shan't be using them again.

Thats pretty good, will need to try them next year - no body would give me agreed value for less than AF last year.

I too was with Adrian flux and they quoted me £183.

I also tried 2Gether and they quoted £130.

Therefore I switched but did not try your trick and see what AF would charge. £100 excess and breakdown recovery included. Although I have AA cover for breakdown.

Angry insurance

I tried Pickles as you suggested but they also have an age stop at 75, seems a bit hard, is one supposed to stop driving our sportsters etc when retired, ?
