The car goes off to Richard this Sunday for body fitting. Now thinking it was a mistake to start keeping a cost spreadsheet as I keep thinking of new bits to buy for further down the line - I don't think the sum function is working right lol!

What have you decided - retro or modern and you must have chosen the paint colour by now

It's going to be black - it's just going in for kit fitting at this stage then it comes back to me for some mechanical mods then the decision on the wheels (retro wires or big alloys) is dependent on how the mods work. So there's really a lot I haven't sussed out yet - it's difficult until you have the physical car to work around. Anyway, once the wheels are sorted final stage will be back for paint. Ultimately though it will have all the chrome work expected plus some custom additions.

No F badges - my mate can CAD logos and get them laser cut so it's likely to have either Kalifornia or Tributo alloy script badges in a "familiar" font!

Won't be covering up it's origins cos the private plate I've bought says it all: IXZ 3250......1xZ3 250!

Look forward to seeing it.

I started keeping a record of costs but decided against it as the figures got larger

I like your number plate, well thought out.

Cheers, Bob.

Wish I could claim I had thought it out but just fluke trawling the cheap Irish plates sites! Going black with the paint partly because it was an originally available colour (always one eye on resale) and partly to help hide some of the larger panel gaps

Dropped the Z3 off to Richard yesterday. Saw a coupe mid build and immediately had pangs of doubt about going Kalifornia rather than coupe. Whenever that happens though i always remember what Richard said when I first went to see the demonstrator - why would you take a convertible and make it a hard top? And for me this is the heart of it as i will be going over to Le Mans Classic next year and possibly Spa classic as well - would also like to do Remparts D'angeloume again and stop of at village of the martyrs on route - amazing place! If there's sun gotta make use of it!

Also I know I said i was going black partly to help with disguising any gapping issues I should say I saw the new metallic blue Kalifornia demo and the shutlines are way, way superior to the original red demo car. if anyone had concerns about them (a couple of people asked) I'd say relax - they've got it sorted.

Finally I saw the brand new 16" wires with nicely bulging Toyos on Richards red Kali - completely spun me on the way i thought I was going in terms of restomod look. The 16's look bloody gorgeous - although not cheap.

Came away very excited - roll on spring!

Smash - It sounds like you have picked a good place to get your car built.

Any "Before" photos?

Good luck, Paul.

No before pics.

Mrs Xmas bought me a wood rim Nardi

This was all the push I needed to decide to splash the cash on genuine SWB door handles. I'm only gonna do this once so.....

Cheapest I have seen are here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1511385147...84.m1436.l2649

Thing to watch out for is that they are for a LHD and have only one lock, not sure if you can transfer it to the Right Hand door handle.

I've dug deep and ordered the real handles! Also went for a different choice of headlight trim ring...

Been exchanging photoshop mock ups with Richard and am refining various additional trim bits and am very happy with "virtual" results!

Won't be doing any internal trim work apart from losing the roll bar, adding a Nardi wheel and a partially exposed stainless gear lever.

Does anyone know if Dayton have a UK supplier? I tried contacting them but no answer

Window trim will look great.

Richard must have done some great polishing work on those "new" 16's, he's the 3rd owner.

Try www.turrinowheels.com for wires.

Well they certainly looked new to me and way better than the 15"s in the above pic! The lower profiles looked great too
