Also (it would have been about 1988) there was a place near Chadwell Heath in Essex (spotted from a flyover) that had many E types in various stages of completion. Makes me curious how many 'replicas' are around labeled as the real thing?
Not the same place where "smash" had his 250 bumpers handmade in stainless is it??

I think that was scott & walker (or similar) in Basildon - they made some GT40 replicas many years ago!

This is going to be a longer term project. All I have done so far is strip the remaining paint. Over the holiday all I plan to do is mock up the front end again and see about welding it back together. There are a couple of parts to make including the scuttle panel and bonnet, both of which were missing. Luckily the windscreen and frame were included, the curved lower edge of which I can use to form the correct profile of the scuttle extending down over the bonnet to the nose.

That sounds like quite a task ... creating compound curved panels in aluminium is a true skill ... Hat off to you if you can do that , its something I wished I had learnt to do when I had the chance years ago ....

I met a guy recently who makes these .....

Absolutely fantastic , but not cheap !!

The curves are very subtle and mostly in one direction. The hard part will be forming the bonnet bulge. I will make a wooden former and make it separately from the bonnet

I'll start a new thread for this car on the Italian Replica section with photos and updates as it progresses.
