Default Marlin closed

Well that got your attention.

Just tried getting hold of Marlin for a tech question and was told to call back next Wednesday as they are closed until then.

I will stress it was not Mark I needed to talk to, but . . . .

Oh well, I guess that's another weekend not working on the car.

I have more or less asked the questions already. It is all to do with the wiring.

I noticed on the car they are building that it has 5 relays in total. You get 2 in the loom they supply, but where do the others go to?
I guess the 2 in the engine bay either connect to the engine loom or to the 5as. Is this right?

Where do I get the other? what is it for? Why is there no info on it?

I have a grey/blue wire that goes from the clocks to the front of the car. What is it for?

And what do I do with the 5AS box? Particularly without having to buy the other wiring harness off Marlin.

I think that is about it.

Not looked in detail at the wiring. Not even opened the bag with the wiring!! Did you ask Marlin to find out that they use 5 relays?
Off the top of my head, two relays I can think of are the indicator/hazards and the intermittent wiper.

Are you doing a 1600cc 5EXI?

I'll have a look at the circuit diagrams tonight to see if I can work it out for you.

The Grey blue. Looking at the Marlin diagram, is the heater switch or the fuel guage. I think this might go to the fuel sender unit if it's going to the front of the car.

Not sure on the 5AS at the mo. I know WKC guy got the loom from Marlin and still had problems with different colours etc.

Found this link on John's site.
http://www.marlinturbo.dsl.pipex.com/wiring.htm

I think a couple more relays are ignition, fan and starter. Or one could be ABs if your donor was fitted with it.

Mines a 1600.

Marlin turbo is using the Rover loom, not the Marlin one and the wiring is different for the tubo I believe, particularly in respect of the 5AS box.

I think the relays in the supplied loom are for the ignition & poss wiper and the 'other' one they had fitted for the indicators/ hazard, but I have no idea on how to fit this in, nor do I have one as the relay from the donor is mounted in the fusebox.

I will check the fuel guage for the spare wire.

Your right about the 5AS. But curious that Marlinturbo has used the donor loom. Will have to pick his brains!!!

How are the other relays connected to the Marlin loom??? Not lloked yet. Maybe be able to connect up the relays using some bits from www.maplin.co.uk?? You should be able to connect them up using some spade connectors or sockets from here depending on what type of relays they are.

I have been looking at the loom this weekend. I am not 100% sure but one of the relays on the marlin loom is the indercators. I am not sure on the other one. From the haynes manual you need another for the diped/main beam but I spoke to simon at marlin and he said you dont need it. So i am a little unsure on this. I think the other 3 you are talking about are the fuel pump relay, ignition and main relay, they normally come in one box together and in the haynes manual they are called the MEMS relay box, but I got my engine from an older 200 series and they came in the main engine fuse box so I am going to have to make that.
Hope this helps!!!

hi all

The two relays in the marlin loom are the indicators (relay taken from donor) the other is the radiator fan relay. the only other ones are in the box by the mems unit in the engine loom. I thought the blue grey wire in the marlin loom was for the rad fan. If I remember there are two depending on weather you use a thermal switch in the rad or the engine.

all the best

Marlin supply these:

You get these from the donor:

But this one?

It's attached to the steering column. It's this one that I don't know anything about.

Default flasher relay

I was referring to the markings on the relay (photo), anyhow it is the flasher relay which is what you wanted to know. Brian.
