Default Copy cat idea!....

Ever since Scotty posted pictures of his mini VW ive always found myself looking out for them. I did have a look at the jap import subaru sambars but they seem a lot of money for what they are, around £4/£5k. And because they have a tiny 650cc engine and 3 speed autos it put me well off them.

They do look pretty cool though.....

This is what I've bought.....

And i have found a supplier of a full kit to fit the subaru sambar for £750, i spoke with the guy and he says with a little bit of messing about it will fit the hijet.

Scotty did you come across any problems?

And does anyone know where i can get some rear lights as similar to the origional vw campers as possible that dont cost a fortune?....

I know this is a tribute part of the forum but i know this is the most used section!

The engine is under the front seats and are 3 cylinders with a 993cc, they are really reliable motor and perform well

Quite tempted like the style. Saw quite a few when I was in Weymouth. Different colours and had the full front and rear bumper

I was tempted to go the other way and actually end up with a camper big enough to camp in comfort in

That gets my vote too. I'd want one I could stand up in. Along with the shower, loo, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine.
And a Z300S on davits at the back.

I'm pretty sure there's something in the law about towing a working vehicle - apparently the motorhome with the smart car on tow isn't allowed!
You may have to disable your towed vehicle?

Nice project! It'll certainly overcome a load of the rusting issues and undoing-bodges-by-previous-hippy-owners issues that I've had with SWMBO's Type 2!!

It would seem that anything VW camper related adds a couple of numbers to the price, so if you do find anywhere then please let me know!

Passed the mot yeaterday so will tax it the end of the month and run about in it. Its been off the road for a good few years.

Its got 12" wheels on and im looking to put 13" wheels on. I went to my mates scrap yard today and tried god knows how many diferent 13" wheels and couldnt get any to fit the right pcd. I googled it and its me t to be 4x100 and is it bollocks! Mine must be the only 1 that isnt!

4x114.3, I'd have thought. Or possibly 4x110.
