Default Post paint defects and fixing them

I am not going to name and shame anyone because I expect to be the main culprit but I had some issues with the paint around my door handles.0

I decided to replace the plastic BMW handles with some Fiat Barchetta handles which looked prettier. Chris obliged and all was good.

A while later the paint began to crack around the handles.

There was a little crack on one side and a bloody great split on the other side

I went to Jeff and he made everything better. First he showed me the problem

Then the scale of the problem

Then cleaned it up

Properly cleaned it up

Then something about green gloop but I kind of lost interest. I was happy he was doing a good job and about 9 months later they doors are perfect

Worth bearing in mind when doing any metalwork- corrosion needs all three of metal, oxygen and moisture being able to get together.

I would imagine that being a door handle that the area would have quite a bit of stress, body filler will soon crack. I presume that the green gloop is a GRP paste of some sort which should give the surrounding area more strength. Shame it is such an involved job as the handles really do look good.

Yeah - if the paint fails it has reached the end of its life

;-)
