Default Steering Questions

Question 1: We have a new steering column from rover and rack from marlin, question is the spline on the new column u.j. is bigger than the spline on the marlin rack. Which rover u.j. do we require to resolve this problem.

Question 2: Has anyone had problems with the front and rear track rod end, I.e. ours seem to small for the collars on the hubs and don't tighten up. We need to contact marlin on this but wondered if anyone else has seen this problem before. We hope it's not the collars in the hubs as have built the hubs up.

Many thanks, Big Fella.

Hi Big Fella,

I can answer question 1 for you... yes the Uj is a little bit bigger so the trick is to get a decent bolt and keep tightening the UJ until the it actually closes up and grips properly...

If i remember right there is a 'flat' area on the spline which once the bolt is tightenened will stop it from being able to rotate...

I've now covered 5000 miles and never had any problem with this..

Hope this helps?
Dylan

Big Fella,

Dylan covered question 1...just to add to that I also used a Nyloc nut on the bolt passing thru to really tighten things up. However, I do have a concern about this...you could put a crack on the steel UJ so inspect yours closely after fitting it...

Question 2, could you be more specific? Do you mean all of the Front and Rear rod ends don't fit...? IIRC I had to modify a couple of things...

John

Default steering

Hi,
be carefull with steering uj, I think there is a difference between some models, I had the same problem and it will not fit the metro rack, I think if yours is from a power steered model that may be the difference, just go to the scrappy and get a uj from base 214 and that should sort it.

The track rod ends are metro I believe, did you buy from Marlin or source your own, have you measured the hole size against the diameter of the ball pin, good luck with it anyway. Brian.

The taper pin prob is to be sorted buy sending the hub carrier back to marlin. They have the wrong taper holes in them.
The biggest prob is that i have allready fitted the ( NEW ) bearings and hubs to the rear hub carrier Doh
