I do like those wheels with the spinners and towers, think I may be in touch with you about those could be a viable alternative as it looks as if the wheels I want are well over a grand, not including tyres.
Would there be room under the arches for higher profile tyres, or would that be pushing it on 17s?

Feel free to get in touch. I can put you on to the chap that mine came from.
If you look at the pictures on page 8 of when Chris first did the car, it's on standard height suspension and there's plenty of room in the arch (too much for my taste which is why I had the lower coil overs fitted)
Not sure what sizes are available in 17" but mine are going to be standard front size all round. The original wheels and tyres were larger on the back but changing them will only upset the speedo reading by less than 1%.
These came the other day so hopefully the Campagnolo stickers will help the 'period alloy' look of the wheels.

I like the style of the wheels but the tyres look too low profile. I'd go for 65 or 70 profile tyres for that period look.
For me it has to be wires or maybe period style alloys.

Not much to report but things are still happening.
I dropped the wheels off today to have the studs welded in which holder the spinner towers.
I've bought a square number plate to offset at the front and from reading the DVLA site (if I've got it right) I have to have 11mm of plate around the numbers so it's been cut down. I'm currently making some brackets.
I've read that if the central locking stops on one door it most likely to be the wires broken as the come in near the hinge. I had an electrician out yesterday and of course it isn't that so I've ordered a new actuator, hopefully that will sort it.

Wondered when someone would pick up on those targa florio scrutineer stickers...they have. Been on ebay for about 3-4 years thought a sammio would have had them by now

'Very Andy' kindly altered one of his photoshop pictures to my colours and wheels. Lovely job and very like my plan.
Got round to finishing the brackets and mounting the new numberplate today.

Absolutely right. You have to adopt a strange stoop so you can see. Since I fitted the smaller steering wheel the indicator warning lights have become invisible but an variation to the mirror stoop and I can just about see.
All will be improved given time and the right parts appearing .
I've got a nice pair of fog lights for the front but probably won't fit them as I don't want the car to look too busy or too like a Ferrari copy.

If mine looks a fraction as good as the one above I'll be happy. In fact a fraction as good is all I'm after as I want a car I can use in any weather and leave parked without worrying.

I know you plan to paint your car but how good is the gel coat ? Would it polish up to a good standard and would the flash lines come out without the need to use filler ?

Hi,
If you were more patient than I am then with careful flatting, polishing and the use of stickers over iffy bits, you could get a usable finish.

Forum search is your friend here- jump back to Page 8 of this thread for a discussion on flash removal.
The SWB bodies look to be quite liveable with once they've been trimmed, cleaned and polished.
My own Z300S is currently sporting a mixture of basic white matte gelcoat, white primer, grey-green body filler, white plastic wrapped doors and red stick-on stripes.
And I'd still rather be driving it !!!

Yes I did read the early section of the thread . Its just that gel coat can vary a lot depending who is doing the work . Have you seen the quality of Ultima Cars , they offer gel coat which is simply stunning . I've also built a Cobra replica with gel finish but it was very hit and miss .Some of the moldings were out of line so much you went through the gel to get it evened out.

Agreed, Ultima is one of the best, both for panel accuracy and finish.
My 1994 Sylva Fury still looks good in its Oxford Blue gel coat- doesn't see the light of day often though. My Jago would have had a good finish originally but sunlight took its toll (glossy Bright Red originally, matt brick red when I got it) which is why it is now painted (yellow!!!)
Did you know that plastic yachts are moulded in white so that the pigment oxidisation is not obvious?

Hi folks,
Not much to report at the minute but I have finally sorted the high level light.
I've just filed the slot so far but will screw it on now. The wiring can wait until I get several electrical bits done.
It came from Car Builder Solutions LEDST237 and is a stop and tail light. When we went to Snetterton in the rain a mate said my rear lights weren't easy to see so this should help, along with led bulbs in the rest.
Now I'm making a combined reverse/rear fog light using an old spot light, some led lights, some glittery paper, a piece of bathroom glass, a bit of a plastic sign, (a fairy liquid bottle and a pair of Val's old knickers --a Blue Peter joke that shows my age!). Hopefully it will work out as I've never been keen on the ones I've got fitted at the minute.
