Default gear select problem!!

Im having a problem with the gear select when in gear the gear knob can be moved from side to side as though it is in neutral.
I have looked at pictures of the linkage finished and my one looks identical. Does anybody have any ideas?

Default gearselect problem

have you tried working your gearchange direct from the box without any of the cables connected. If you work the shaft whilst in gear and in neutral that should tell you if it's a cable set up problem or gearbox problem. Is the bracket that slides on to the shaft a good fit with no free play, I think I had to drill out the hole to match the hole in the shaft. If I had used a bolt the size of the hole in the bracket it would have been loose on the shaft causing the symptoms you describe. I haven't fully sorted my gearchange out yet (no reverse) but it is ok in neutral and selects some gears. I want to get the cooling system and brakes finished before I go any further with the gears. Good luck. Hope this helps. Brian.
