I'm a bit of a long term lurker on these forums and watching the various builds with interest, I've owned a couple of MX-5s (one heavily modified turbo charged MK1 and a lightly modified MK2.5).

Back when Simpson Design and Retroforza were the limited options for a retro modded MX-5 (along with various JDM wonders such as Pit Crew and the like) I suggested to Jim Simpson a more 70s / 80s style kit and did the shop below:

Jim is firmly in the 60s styling camp and wasn't keen, Chris might consider it though.

Should be a fairly simple kit (nose, wings, bonnet, rear wings, boot and rear bumper) and you get to keep the pop-up head lights.

It would have been nice if Toyota made the MR2 like that in the first place ! Its only down to the shape of the panels at the end of the day. Once tooling is set up you can make any shapes you like for your production car. Costs would be largely the same for a crap looking MR2 or the proposal here !

Default Not sure if this is a good suggestion but made me smile

What about one of these ?

It looks like what an unskilled builder like me if they did a KOBRA

Can anyone see this?

Personally I find the MR2 short wheelbase and lack of width means that most of the ferrari/modern supercar style kits look wrong in proportion.

I believe that the MR2 is 1695mm wide, and the 675 is 2095.
So the difference is 400mm or about 16" in old money - quite a lot wider on a narrow country lane.
For comparison a Dino is 1703.

You scale it down to about 80% to keep the proportions right. That idea has worked with other kits such as the Teal Type 35 ( scaled up )and Vincent Riley ( scaled down ) etc.

I would like to see something like the Alfa junior earlier in the thread which i think is gorgeous. Something that can be built on a low cost mx5. A modern interpretation like manufactures have done with the beetle and mini. The junior and some others in the similar idea.

The alfa Junior

Escort mk1 re-imagined as a 2 seat coupe

Nissan idx concept

Would look good on th z3. And panels would be easily off and on able. The harder lines would would with the angle of the windscreen.

After you mentioned the z3 I went and read about it. All the panels bolt on even the rear panels. That's good to know. I think you're right it would make a perfect donor.

The escort MK1 inspired design would work on a mk1 audi tt i think. The design is almost there already with the wheel arches. Just need to square up the front and back bumpers adding the escort front grill and bonnet. Finish it off with some cool wheels and graphics.

I'd have thought the Escort would sit nicely on a BMW 1 series coupe (albeit a pricey donor just now). Imagine an M135 Escort-alike. mmmm.

Or a suzuki Kizashi with a manual box swap and a remap. 4wd mmmmm. also pricey just now.
