Merlinman tells me that if any part of the running gear is exposed to the elements then nut covers are a must. But on our beautiful EXi they are a luxury which is not required.
On the matter of theft I have not used the Rover alarm etc, I would only put my trust in a known name, thought even of tracker but not sure how this would go down with the SVA boys.
One other question have you used the Rover intercooler and where have you mounted it? I have it right behing the passengers head but would prefer to lower if possible.
Hi John,
this is straight out of sva manual.
All vehicles except
a. Goods vehicles
b. Passenger vehicles that comply
with the requirements of item
E1 of the ESVA requirements
and having a date of
manufacture on/after 1
October 1998
1. Check, in addition to the normal “ignition” switch,
the vehicle is permanently fitted with an anti-theft
device that can be activated to prevent the vehicle
being driven or moved under its own power.
The device may be mechanical, electrical or
electronic or a combination of these.
2. Check each anti-theft device
a. is operational
b. does not operate on a part of the braking
system
c. which incorporates a mechanical part that acts
upon a system used to control the vehicle (eg
steering system)
i. cannot be activated while the engine is
running
ii. does not allow the engine to be started
before the device has been deactivated
iii. has an actuation, which is a distinct and
separate function from that of stopping the
engine.
NOTE: A steering lock that is permanently
inoperative shall not be considered to be an
anti-theft device.
Reasons for failure
1. An anti-theft device not fitted.
2. An anti-theft device
a. inoperative
b. operates on a part of the braking system
c. incorporating a mechanical part that acts upon
a system used to control the vehicle
i. can be activated while the engine is
running
ii. allows the engine to be started before the
device is deactivated.
iii. the activation of which is not a separate
function from that of stopping the engine.

I think that means a normal ignition steering lock is adequate as long as it works. Brian.
just to add my pennies worth. Yes the normal steering lock is all that is required for the sva. Nut covers or protectors will be reqired on any internal or external projections from the car. that they can get their balls on stick into. running gear covered by the body wheel arches will be ok. On my last sva i even had to fill in head of philps screews. A typical requirement will be nuts and bolds on the upper seat belt anchorage.
also dont forget your radii on parts, I failed my first Sva because my wing mirror back had a 2mm radius not at least 2.5mm even though the mirror was E marked, picky or what
