I think mine's positively subtle by comparison, but it does show that some donors have more clearance issues than others. This one's running a 1600 Vitesse engine and it looks like it sits even higher than my 2 litre mk1. There's the (lovely) brass expansion tank to cover too, which explains the second scoop.

I think I'd be sourcing different engine mounts and buying a new bonnet if I were to purchase that one. It does look like great value for somebody at that price though.

I understand why Ribble are selling this, but it is still a shame not to see it finished.

Hopefully the new owner will sign up here & keep us posted.

Cheers, Paul.

It is a shame but it's has to happen I'm afraid. I too hope the new owner keeps in touch with the completion of her.

This looks like it has potential -

That said, I'm not sure that the parts on show do actually add up to what he is asking. Perhaps I am missing something.

The weirdest eBay description of all time - written by the chap who used to write "Our tune" for Simon Bates....then read the caveat at the bottom!

To me it looks like the starting price is about what it could cost to put the package together yourself if you bought a ready stripped donor.

Just bear in mind that many of us effectively got our donors free as we made more back from selling the redundant parts than we paid for the whole car to start with.

With this one, a lot of the saleable parts have already gone (my bonnet alone fetched £311 on ebay ). As it seems to be missing the internal frame and perspex screen, you'd need to allow two or three hundred pounds for those essentials too.

Having said that, some people like the simplicity of having someone else do the donkey work stripping the donor (Gary J sold quite a few packages like that) so it could be an easy way into Spyder ownership for someone looking to save time rather than money.

As for the extras with the kit, the exhausts look nice and although I do like the look of the Dino dash, it would take quite a bit of fabrication to make it fit above the steering column, although I suppose it would 'bolt in' in the centre of the dash easily enough.

Whoever does buy it, it'd be nice to see a build thread on here...

OMG!
It took me a few hours and several cups of tea to get away with my Vitesse but I can imagine this one will take a little longer. A change of address and phone number spring to mind. Lovely chap though!!!!

That is only down the road from me so i've been watching it with a bit of interest, but i've got to agree that for what he's selling he is asking top dollar.

i.e. the donor in that state has got to be £500 max, especially without the other bits to sell.
The Sammio parts are the shell only from what i can see, no frame, so ~£900 new.

The other bits-n-bobs could possibly top that up to the starting price if you bought it all new.

But.... it's now 2nd hand. So i can't see it making much more than it's up for.

If only i had a double garage....
and some more money.....
And i was able to hide the existence of this from SWMBO!

No, I really get it.

It's more than just a car to this guy, it's been part of his life since he was a boy. I'm almost tempted to take him up on the offer and restore it for my son to drive when he's 17.

But like Dave C, swmbo would want to know where the money was coming from...

(Reply to the Simon Bates ebay add, btw).

I can understand his emotional attachment, but he is clearly NOT ready to part with UGY, which is sad.

Surely if it was acceptable to use on the stand at 'Stoneleigh' then it would have been better to finish the last few items on the build and then sell it. In my opinion it is not good for a company to sell a part finished car like this as now it looks as if there is a problem with it and could reflect on future sales.
The Sammio Spyder is still I believe the only finished product on the road with the Cordite and G46 still 'under development' with no finished cars.

I must agree with froggyman, its not setting a good standard.

For what is effectively a marketing car i would expect it to have been in better shape, also if it were complete at the show im sure it would generate a lot more interest and may have even received some decent offers on the day, whereas now sitting on ebay going for peanuts it will just lower the brand value.

I may be wrong, but thats my 2 pence anyway :-)

Assuming that the car is registered as having been rebodied, I would have been inclined to keep the car as a donor. I would remove the tub and bonnet and sell that as a "kit", and then re-body with the new Navigator.

The savings on buying and stripping a new donor vehicle, and going through an inspection must be in excess of what the current car will fetch on eBay.

Just a thought.

Froggyman, Cabbage.

I do take your point but as will be seen soon, the old Cordite is so far away from the new build Navigator when it's re-released, it just isn't representative of the car we will be selling.

The body is different, having been dramatically reshaped and finished, the frame is a different one piece structure with built in lowered floors (Front and rear) and, of course, the old Cordite doors are no more.

The balance on a business point of view is whether to expend costed effort on finishing the old product or put that money into making the replacement better and getting a representative demonstrator on the road sooner rather than later. Selling 'Number 56' on will clear the decks of the Cordite history (Those moulds are to be broken up and replaced with new), and in due course the Pilot will be having the same treatment. It is no secret that the Cordite had issues that made it difficult to build or complete and we see the new design making it even easier than the Pilot.

Oxford, That is certainly an option. I do have a reserve set on it so that may be a good way forward if it doesn't reach it. The car currently has in excess of 200 watchers and I've been fielding European calls from Germany, France and Italy so it may go for what I feel it should do. If not, out 'Phoenix' car may well have a sister

It's probably just me, but as I read the advert rather than violins playing I imagined I heard the rising and falling whine of a heavenly chainsaw and caught a whiff of 2T on the breeze....

(I might have simply been looking at my last G46 build thread post of course...)
