Default Hard top

Working on a hard top as the weather can be very cold here in Scotland! The Cordite is nearly ready for its MOT. Will take next month. I possibly have the only Cordite in Scotland. I might try a few shows but also hope to try a bit of hill climbing. Cheers, Neil

That looks promising.

Google images for a Porsche 550 Coupe and you will find pics of a silver hardtop'd example of a 550 Spyder .
That's the image I would have in mind for the styling of the rear .

Here you go -

I had the same idea myself but never went through with it. I thought I might use a 'new' VW beetle hatch as a starting point. They're typically about forty quid on ebay and I'm sure I've seen some with a 'split screen' cover added over the top -

Oh, and best of luck getting in and out with the roof on Nellieb. I guess you must be the World limbo champion...

I never thought of entrance and exit! But I am thinking of a hinged idea or leg amputation Cheers for the images.

The German race car drivers would all have been about 5' 2'' and about 5 stone wet through !!

Thats a good call on the hatch Towed , with a bit of fettling , you could make that work . The Cobra hardtops on Ebay would probably give you a decent start too .
Is that an A35 roof you are starting with , I thought Morris originally but it looks a bit different ?

My thoughts were based around a 356 screen when I was looking at it a few years back, but there's more than one way to skin a feline !

A guy in Thailand has been making 550 coupes, including a modern interpretation.
He has solved the entry issue

Hi, sorry I have been away for a few days! The top is a mk3 Spitfire turned around and made of steel. My doors are hinged and so I can just crawl in which I have done on a number of occasions. The rear needs some thought as is open and so some designing and fabrication is to be needed! I have run open top kit cars all year round for many years but as I am now an ageing hippy I would prefer some comfort! Also now my hair is thin and it gets cold round my ears and also I do like the look of the flow of some various hard tops as you have shown in the recent pictures. The hard top if done well can look subtle and sexy! Especially if a young lady is attempting to climb in with a mini skirt on? Not much chance of that now!

Aaaah yes , I can see it now ! Keep going Nellieb , I love the different variations on a theme these little cars seem to generate .

Yes you are right! I have built a number of kit cars previously but nothing compares to the Sammio range for its flexibility and joys and frustrations! But the challenge is good for you!

No problem, I'm always looking at bits of cars and wondering what they could become.

Default Sammio Cordite

Hi all! After three years of enjoying the build of my Cordite I took my little wonder for its MOT. After knocking the exhaust off on a raised manhole at the bottom of my drive I roared into the garage to the amusement of the garage mechanics! It passed with flying colours! I was flabbergasted and in fact in shock! As I didn't sleep last night through excitement and apprehension.I shook the tester by the hand and roared back to my cottage with a huge smile on my face and even the sun came out to celebrate my road worthy Cordite!

An on the road Cordite is a very rare sight indeed.

Thanks for your kind comments my Sammio companions.Without your site and the encouraging and informative pics I am certain the Sammio build would have certainly faltered ! And yes the Sammio is an individual and unique experience! I will post more pics on future progress! Regards, Neil.
