Sounds like your kit will be under construction soon.

Good luck, Paul.

Yes I have delayed my kit as I have no space at home on the drive at the moment.

I am hoping to get the frame home for next weekend so I can get the rolling chassis done, Engine in and the wiring sorted!

Another bonus with delay is that I have agreed with Mike that I will have my body in gel coat coloured so I don't have to paint it straight away.

That's funny, I'm only 8 miles away and it isn't snowing here yet. Bloody weather...

Looking forward to seeing your Miglia coming together Tone, when's your target date for roadworthyness?

Cold but a beautiful clear day here on the coast, lets see what I can get done, a hundred and one jobs started but none finished. The interior is taking a lot of time but dashboard is coming along. just want to get some paint on but patience persists.

no snow here in the south!
was quite warm in the sunshine but then it got cloudy and cold!

Got the rear end together.....

As you can see I have put a swing spring in and I haven't got my lowering block yet, so that will go in next week. I am going for a 1" block as that was my sammio was with 15" wheels. May need to go more, but I will wait and see. It is relatively easy to get to when it is built up anyway (my sammio took about 4 attempts to get the ride height sorted!)

Anyway, one thing to remember if you are going to convert to a Swing Spring and that is to block up the 2 holes that are not used in the diff as the Swing spring only has 4 bolts and not 6.

I used a standard bolt which I crimped the thread a bit with a hammer. this causes a friction fit with no chance of it undoing and dropping into the diff!

Wind the bolts in and then hacksaw off the head flush with the diff casing.....

And viola - two blocked holes!

I did get the front end on as well but forgot to take pictures so I will take some tomorrow!

I have come in now as I am going out to the pub later.

Hope to get the brakes and steering rack on tomorrow, and then the brake pipes and fuel pipe on.

Oh yes, Mr T. I am hoping for a May finish - stoneleigh if I can, but I a have just picked up a few jobs in April that will take up some of the spare time, but will earn some more money for bits and bobs!

End of May is a definite! Ready for a scorching summer !!

A little further today, just had a couple of hours before I had some other stuff to do, so I finished off the front end...

Got the rear brakes to sort tomorrow morning and then it will be rolling!

It's got the standard wheels on at the moment as I need to get tyres and adapters for the wires..

Brake pipes and fuel pipe on Monday, along with the engine and gearbox I hope.

I will aim to get the frame on during next week....

Are you finding things easier second time around?

It does look like it is all coming together nicely.

Good luck, Paul.

This is my third herald chassis Paul, so yes it is easier.

Mind you I have been painting stuff for a week or so, so the build is pretty straightforward with new and clean painted bits.

Really want to get the frame on so I can sort the wiring and get the fuel tank in.
Need to sort out the seat and belt mountings and handbrake etc.

On a roll now so while the motivation is still here..........

So I'm guessing that since my diff only had 4 holes it must be off a late spitfire or a gt6?

I think anything after '74 had the swing spring as it was made into the standard fitment, so later spits and GT6 would definitely have the four bolt as standard.

The bolts go right through, so if you have the earlier one, the two unused bolt holes act like vents and whilst don't p*ss the diff oil out entirely, will weep a bit and throw some all over the underneath of the car!

I wonder if I slacken of the bolts and squeeze some hylomar blue between the lowering block and diff if that will seal any chance of weeping? cant say I would look forward to accessing the rest of it now all is in place..

Or just top up the diff every couple of months and smile, safe in the knowledge the rear of your chassis will never ever rot again:-)
