Default More windscreen drama

Today I spent another 6 hours welding, cutting grinding and filing, and it's STILL not finished, but it MUST be 6 hours closer.............

My windscreen is to me,what Paul's bulkhead is to him:
A fu**ing nightmare!!

Scottie - You know you have my sympathies.

The other thing, is that when it is done, no one else will know just how much work has gone into it.

( Unless they have been following this build thread. )

But the key is that you will know that you have created this "the hard way".

As my own "Battle of the Bulkhead" draws to a close, I am really proud of the finished product.

As I am sure you will be of your windscreen, when the fruits of all your labours are complete.

Good luck, Paul.

Scottie,
YOU ARE A MAN AMONG MEN!!!!
What craft and attention to detail. We can all get the cheque book out, but after reading your thread I am so amazed by your determination to cross the bridge at all costs. So impressed, well done and keep up the good work. I now feel completely discouraged and embarrassed, so think it's back to the car this week end. Thank God I never put a "real" deadline on it. Hmm perhaps I could get a job as a Government spokesman (should that be spokesperson to be P.C.?)

Default Praise

Well Simon,

I feel completely humbled by your praise!

I am driven mainly by poverty! I cannot get the cheque book out, so that is why I am so deterrnined to create a very expensive looking car for peanuts!

Peanuts is all I have!!

Seriously though, it always has annoyed me when looking at price lists for Jaguar XKSS bits and pieces. The prices are all way beyond most hard working ordinary folk. I am very lucky to have found the neccessary skills which have enabled me to get this far with the build on an absolute shoe-string.

I also love a challenge, and this build has certainly provide lots of that!

You MUST NOT feel discouraged or embarrassed, but should think about being inspired! If I can do it anyone can, I used to be a soldier, and took great delight in blowing things up and all sorts of destruction, but then discovered that I also had a creative streak, which is what I am trying to develop now.
Go for it Simon! All the guys on this forum will give you help and advice, which is one reason I started the thread.
I have gained so much input from everyone, there are some really experienced and skilfull operaters out there believe me.

Could you lengthen the channel that the window felt will sit in? From looking at the pictures it looks as if it could go through the GRP body and bolt to the door hing bracket or the bar strengthener running across the door opening.
MGB's had a similar fixing, it may well make it easier taking it off and off and add strength, the wind pressure at 80mph would be quite strong. Maybe even a similar fixing added to the lower centre if there is anything underneath to mount it to.

Default Windscreen

You are on the right lines there Jag.

I always intended to weld a steel strap to the inside of the windscreen at the rear edge, and bolt it to a bracket which I will bolt to the side crash-bar.

After looking at the interiors of XKSS, in one form or another it looks as
though they are all built this way.

When that is done, the bolts holding the screen on around the bottom edge, will hardly have any load on them at all, as the load should be taken by the side struts.

Well spotted!

Absolutely brilliant!!

The cyclists must nearly be dragged off their bikes when he goes past at 160 mph!!

Default Today

I had a bit of a setback the other day, my mum, who has been in hospital since Christmas, (she never made it to me as planned)
passed away on Friday.

Although I could see it coming,it still hit hard.

I spent yesterday black-bagging stuff at her house which was not nice.

I have organised the funeral, and have stacks of admin still to do.

I am back home now, as I could not spend any longer there.

In order to lift my spirits a bit, today, drove (yes drove) the car out of the tent and put the new wheels on one side, and took some pictures.

It acted as a distraction, and has helped a bit. I am pleased with the windscreen as it looks correct.

I think the car will look fairly close to the original when its all done.

After the funeral, it will be my priority to try and move on and finish the build however long that may take.

I still do not want to rush anything, as I have taken my time so far and it has paid off. The car looks as I want it to.

Here are the pics:[IMG][/IMG]

Just read yesterday's update Scottie. I'm sorry to hear your sad news, we all know it's inevitable but it never makes it any easier to bear.

It might sound heartless but I've always taken the loss of a relative or friend (and the near misses with death I've had) as a signal that life is short and should be lived to the full. So keep up the good work on your car and you'll soon have something that'll make you glad you're alive every time you look at it.

Sorry for your loss Scottie. I know what a difficult time this must be. If it's any help, it does get easier with time. Think of the good times.

My condolences to you and your family and all the best...very sorry for your loss!
When I hear that somebody passed away it always tells me that I should spend more time with my dad and my mum because both are already over 80 years old...
