Oxford - More nice work.

It is good to see the various different ways people have made hinges work on their builds.

Good luck, Paul.

And, before anyone mentions it, I do have big concerns as to how I might get the deck to clear the exhausts. It might be that the deck is just removable rather than "flip".

Default Not much to show

Not much to show of late, but plenty of beard scratching and planning.

I did take delivery of the world's dinkiest petrol tank today.

It's only 4.5 gallons but it will be enough for plenty of fun.

Then I played around with increased hump heights........

And finally couldn't resist trying my D24-like bonnet intake.

I hope to get some proper work time at the weekend.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. The solution to stop the rear clam fouling on the exhausts.......side exits. I'll make you proud Mr T, I promise.

That's one neat little tank Oxford but still enough room for some octane fueled fun.

Like the scoop, should look factory finished rather than my modded in the pits effort.

Four and a half gallons. Hmm, I have a Spit 7.5 gallon tank fitted and I'd like more - if I ever built another I'd go 50 litres -

Looking forward to seeing the side exit exhausts come together.

I would have liked to go for a big tank but I am struggling with space - I want to site the battery behind the bulkhead and have access to everything. With a 1300 lump I reckoned that 4.5 gallons should last nearly two hours at motorway speeds, and I would need a break by then. I will have a can in the boot, that's for sure.

Oxford - Looks like good progress to me.

Plus never underestimate the amount of beard scratching required on these builds.

Good luck, Paul.

PS
There is a roll bar / hump combination on this Sammio that I stumbled across today.

Although their bar is a tad bigger than yours.

Default Progress is progress

It is so frustrating not having as much time as I would like to work on the car, but I have to remind myself of the Sammio mantra - all progress is good progress.

I knew I would have only a couple of hours so I made the fuel tank holder. I shall make the straps this week.

I have some 5mm fuel-resistant nitrile rubber sheet on order to act as a cushion.

The piece of wood is not structural! It's just to get the height roughly right.

Default Today I was a blacksmith

A client cancelled a meeting today which mucked-up my day so I dodged down to The Glade at 3.

I cut a couple of 60cm lengths of 25mm strap.

Heated them with a blow torch and bent them around an old prop shaft.

Hammered the end brackets and welded in some strengtheners and, bingo, two near-identical straps.

As I mentioned before, I have 5mm nitrile sheet to prevent steel on aly, and I will tidy the welds.

Neat work Oxford on those tank straps and i like your train of thought using the old prop shaft as a template, this car is going to look great.

Clever work, O. You've reminded me to get my eyes tested as your photo looks a little blurry...

Oxford - Nice work on the tank.

Sorry I've been a bit slow in working out that you will have to open the back up to fill up.

At least this means that other people will see your handy work in the petrol station.

Good luck, Paul.

Well, funny you should say that.......

I have a rather nice alloy flip up that I might (I stress "might") recess above the splash bowl so that I can fill-up without raising the back.

I do love Monza/Aston style fillers so I may have one as a dummy........(which I am slightly embarrassed about, but it is my build).

Would be interested in anyone's views as to whether this will look period or whether it just shouts Audi TT.

My gut feeling is that I will regret it if I use it, and I would be crushed if somebody came up and said, "That's off an Audi."
