22nd Sept?

Yes, and have paid for track time - just to drive my old daily driver around, to maintain some track experience.

I've paid up and am planning to be there.... though it's *very* touch and go whether I'll be driving my 5exi or my citroen ZX.... Diesel

If I haven't get SVA and registration sorted I'm thinking I might put the car on a trailer and bringing it down anyway... I need to enquire with Marlin/the track about running a non-tested vehicle. Having said which maybe for a first run a track isn't ideal! Get those brakes bedded in though I guess

LLandow.

http://www.marlinsportscars.co.uk/ma...hp?article=143

"News Article: 143
Title: Marlin Open Day 22nd September 2007
'Open Day' special track event and BBQ at Llandow Circuit nr Cardiff. Only £99 per driver inc BBQ
Only a few places now left. This year we are also allowing cars, other than Marlin's, to attend this prestiougous event (kit or production), so book NOW.
Contact Terry at Marlin Sports Cars on 01363 773 772 or terry@marlinsportscars.co.uk.

LLandow once again plays host to the dedicated Marlin Sports Cars Track Day at this superb compact circuit between Cardiff and Bridgend. Meet members old and new, enjoy a BBQ lunch and benefit from full factory support with instruction on the day. This is a great day out for drivers and spectators alike. For non drivers the BBQ will be £5 per head.

The day consists of three / four chances to drive for 20 minutes in each session with Marlin controlling the amount of cars going out at one time. In the morning Marlin will be arranging two sessions for total novices thus giving them the chance to gain the track experience and to ensure that you only go out with other drivers with similar driving / track experience.

By the after-noon you can then join the slightly more experienced drivers with, hopefully, a free for all at the end of the day. For those experienced drivers, don't worry, you have been planned for as well as there is plenty of time for everyone. Places are limited to 25 cars and there are only a few spaces left, so book your place now. This year Marlin have also allowed a few 'other cars (kit or production) to attend so you don't have to own a Marlin to attend. Contact Terry at Marlin Sports Cars on 01363 773 772 or terry@marlinsportscars.co.uk.

Car might be able to give you a run for your money but driver won't now! Will be a bit ginger on the accelerator from now on! Also your car is lighter. My engine for a start takes three big giys to lift the thing!

Hi guys.

Well luck is not on my side with the Marlin day. Had a set back last weekend and found I have cracked (5mm) the casing on the gearbox where the mount bolts to the chassis. But managed to get a replacement gearbox and is fitted. But unfortunatley, the uprights (going for complete new rear end set up), are not going to be ready until next week. All credit to Marlin. They have worked there butts off. Just was not to be.

What a damn shame!!

Sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you try - if it won't happen it just won't happen..

Good luck!

For thosw that won't have received Terry's email today:

"Dear all

Well this Saturday is looking good weather wise, dry cloudy and about 18deg
so wrap up well. At the moment we have 25 cars coming. 2 x Hunters, 6 x
Sportsters 10 x EXi's including Dylan's race car, Ken's yellow demon and our
EXi Demonstrator.

This year we also have a couple of owners who have not quite finished
building their cars coming in their every day cars, a couple of Elise's, a
Caterham and a few other interesting production cars.

The gates will open at 8.30

Signing on from 9am

Instruction at 9.40

Beginner's line up to go out at 10am

BBQ Lunch break 1 -2pm

2pm Demonstration from Mark and Dylan

2.15 onwards open pit lanes of 15 minutes duration.

However if there happens to be a group of people still feeling that they are
a little unsure we will arrange track time for them accordingly. Don't worry
it's your day and everyone we are there to take care of you.

We have split the morning sessions into 15 minutes each. There will be 1 x
beginners group, 1 x intermediate, 1 x intermediate/advanced and 1 x
advanced. Please let me know by return which group you would prefer to go
out in.

In the afternoon we had planned to do a small display with the two race cars
but unfortunately Mark crashed in the final lap last Saturday at Castle
Combe. He's ok but the car took a bit of a bashing. The great news is Dylan
got a 3rd and he was only 1 second off 1st (won by a Ferrari) excellent, his
report will be up on line at the end of the day.

So we will now have a display with Dylan and Mark in the Demonstrator (with
strict instructions not to crash!!).

We have also arranged the following

1) Dylan and Mark to be at the track from 8.30 to take you for walk around
the track at 8.45 to give out helpful advice.

2) Mark, Ken and Dylan to go out with you in your car to also give advice on
how to drive the track. If you know now that you would like this then please
ring and book your place.

3) Mark to go out in front with the beginners and intermediates first
session.

4) Mike Coombes, Jonathon Coombes and Kevin to make notes of your lap times
so you can see how well you improve over the day. Again this will only
happen if you ask.

5) Simon from Codex will be there to take photographs and if you would like
to have one taken for a nice memento please book in advance or tell him on
the day. He will do a great job and will only be charging £5 a picture.

6) We are staying the night before at the B & B Clemenstone House in Wick
01656 890547 . I know there are a few rooms left. We will be arriving at
Llandow for about 7.15pm then going to Wick to eat before ending up at the
B&B. If you would like to join us for a meal let me know. There are also a
few other places around try laterooms.com and type in Wick or Cowbridge.

7) How to find Llandow http://www.llandow.com/location.htm

Circuit Address - Llandow Circuit, Llandow, Near Cowbridge, Vale of
Glamorgan CF71 7PB

Cardiff - 20 miles A48 /B4268

Bristol - 60 miles M4 / A48 / B4268

Birmingham - 123 miles M5 / M50 / A 4119 / M4 /A48 /B4268

London - 160 miles M4 / A48 / B 4268

The main thing is to enjoy the day and have FUN.

Kind Regards

Terry"

Anyone got any tips on trackday insurance? I have my road policy in place with Footman James, but they don't do trackday cover. I guess there are specialists who cover such?

Rich,

When a company says "track day insurance", be sure to check the finer details. Very often the cover only applies if the event is organised by an approved company. My daily driver is insurance with HIC as they are one of the few companies that'll insure a car with a non-standard engine, and with it comes "track day" insurance (by default - I didn't specify it), however it explicitly states the event must be organised by an approved organiser. I think that is fairly common.

Track day cover is also only for your car, not that it matters (in my experience), as when you sign-on, you waive the right to hold a 3rd party accountable for any damage to your vehicle.

Cheers,

John.

Has someone told Mark the rumour about the VOSA adding crash testing to the new SVA?
