Default Brakes

My brakes without servo are wonderfully progressive but are just too heavy. Unfortunately even with the smallest bore tandem master cylinder and maybe altering the pedal ratio slightly I don't think I am going to be able to reduce the pedal effort enough for my wife to feel confident with the brakes so I think I will have to bite the bullet and put a servo on. Is the 827 servo o.k. or a bit nannyish and has anyone fitted an alternative? Was thinking along the lines of Mini or Metro to give a decent amount of boost without being over-servoed.
