only ploped the engine in for the test, and to drive it onto the trailer, was thinking of a rover k series engine transplant at some point or the rover mgf engine

Assuming that you've only got a 4-pot, you could always take the old-skool option and just do the straight 6 conversion?

YES YOU DO .....I asked that question right at the beginning , was told it was ok to trim them back ...took my first one down for inspection and a visiting DVLA Rep. picked up on the modification , he froze the inspection until DVLA POLICY gave him an official answer - 12 weeks later , we were told that they needed to stay. They are aware they come off later, we just don't talk about it!!...I have stretched a body to cover them in the past ....picture at top of Getting Started page on my website ...but it looks very long on the car - bit Aston DB3 ish....I don't like it , personally.
I still say that , the sacrifice of leaving them on and removing and repairing later is far less a sacrifice than SVA and all the problems that brings to the table , stylewise and build wise ...

Ok, get the message...
Another question? Has any body used JB Weld, would it be strong enough for the brackets on the bonnet? Also on Jons car (american bloke) one of the images show the rear lights are flush with bodywork, do you make tabs behind panel to hold in place? What is the bulkhead problem with 15" wheels? i want a tall tyre so it looks retro. Plus, could you make me a instrument binnacle like on the Lancia D24 Garyh

No to the welding putty - never tried it ....the bonnet is under quite a bit of leverage when open , so we use bonding paste ( you will need that anyway and glassfibre (again , you will have that )
flush lights will involve creating a recess , not just tabs , as you will see past the light if you just cut a hole...
15'' tyres touch the bulkhead....you have to cut the bulkhead and push the steel back to line up with the front crossmember - if you don't its virtually straight line only !
Lancia panel ? Yes , no problem....I like the minimal-ness of that cars dash...you would be advised to run a bit of tube along the top edge under the cowl to give the body the rolled look on the passenger side as well...easy to do but very effective.

i've just finished altering the bulkheads on mine (i'll post some pics later in my build thread), it's a really quick and easy task as long as you've got basic welding skills and should take no more than a few hours.

Hi, with my MGF 15" wheels on no mods what so ever to bulk head they are lowprofile tyres (wider tyres on the rears 225's and195's on the front) and if I need a bit more room its just a case of removing the bulkhead seam, the rears are very close to the rear tie bars so have fitted 5mm spacers on the rear. tried one on the front that also increased the tyre clearance...PAT
