Default Anyone with a part stripped Z3 - where does this go?

I was driving along yesterday and smelled petrol. I stopped and looked around the car to find the source and it was dribbling out of a little pipe as described below.

Just in front of the drivers side rear wheel and viewed from underneath you can see the fuel tank and a pipe clipped to the side.

If anyone has a Z3 in pices or at least with the rear wing removed please can they tell me where this pipe goes. I had topped the tank up the evening before when it was cold and the petrol seemed to leak when the car had been stood in the sunshine so I am hoping it is just an expansion overflow but would like to know for sure.

I am not too worried about petrol leaking onto the floor as the red hot exhaust pipe just behind it seems to vaporise the petrol before it hits the ground which is a good thing, right?

Nick, I think I am right in saying that this pipe should run back up to the rubber boot that is around the filler cap. There is a small hole at the base of the boot with a thin black plastic breather pipe coming of the back. But I'm not able to confirm that without being in the workshop. Either way I would run a pipe up above the level of the tank to be on the safe side. Which of coarse you always are. Or is it the other side you are on?

It does look like ti connects to the rubber boot you describe but the boot is dry with no signs of staining.

Not sure what you mean about running a pipe above the height of the tank?

Also not sure what the safe side is?
