I changed the water pump on my Mx5 not too long ago, and tbh it's actual a pretty big job. There's a lot of "stuff" in the way. It goes all the way down to the thermostat cover having to be taken off. There was a few good guides that I followed,
So you have to take off aux belts first (for me this proved to be a nightmare as the bolt that the alternator "rotates" on to adjust tension had seized and I actually ended up tearing the top half of the bolt off the bottom half, leaving just the thread in there and still in the way!)

As I said it was a fairly big job for me and took all day (8 hours!) but I'm not a mechanic by any sorts. Only ever "tinkered" and and changed oil/plugs/a few gaskets here and there.
