Well the time has come to pick my kit up, so I've got a Transit and will be going west tomorrow morning. Looking forward to this, the build will be a bit slow to start with but have got two weeks off in June to concentrate on it. Got one of my Z3's sorted, ABS pump had packed up now need to get the donor sorted out, having problems with the air bag light. Want to get a years MOT on it before I start the kit.
Decided to make my own badges up for it, same on front and back so this is one I made last night

Down at Tribute yesterday to pick the kit up, nice to meet Chris and Dan and see what they're doing. The 250 SWB is very nice, even tucked away it looks good. Couldn't stay to long as needed to get the van back but was good to chat to them. Got the bits back and unloaded into the back garden just got to make a couple of mobile platforms now to put the bonnet and boot on so I can work on them, think some supermarket trolleys may be borrowed for a while.

Badge looks well made .
Keep us updated with pics as these kits are now living in the shadow of the SWB and it would be a shame if their sales suffered as a result of not being on the front line , so to speak.

As far as the originals go, I'd say there isn't much in it -



Both are stunning cars. As for the Tribute versions, I'd say the SWB makes a better job of incorporating the Z3 windscreen and disguising the BMW origins.

Now if I could just lose the windscreen of the Z300 and lower the rear deck a bit to emphasize those rear arches.

Hmm, could a future project be on the cards once I've finished (started?) the SWB...

Love the photo and agree that both are beautiful

I like the Z300S because it is deliberately not a replica of any one car. The reactions from other people are quite good depending on their knowledge level

No Knowledge : That looks lovely
Some knowledge : That looks lovely - is it a Jag/TVR/Ferarri/???
Knowledge : That looks lovely. I know it's not a Jag/TVR/Ferarri/??? but what is it?
Wife : I don't care that it look lovely, we are taking the Merc as it is more comfortable!

Had some time today so did a fit of the rear lights, got to build a plinth for the outer edges and blend into the bodywork, still figuring out how to do that. Don't think there's a single flat surface on any part of the back, makes life interesting

It is a single curve from side to side and top to bottom without any flat spots. One of my favourite features of the car.

Also why I had my lights frenched in

Another way would be to cut the curve out under the lights and make it flat, that way they would sit right?

Not really done much of late as been concentrating on getting the car through MOT, which it has now passed :-) so can start stripping it down. Picked up some roll bars and fitted them, was going to remove the rear shelves but when fitting the roll bars found a very nice sound system which I didn't know about. Have made a front grill, saw the ones for the SWB and thought they would look good so made one up. Have more or less finished building the plinths for the rear lights. Got a load of goodies coming this week, lights, filler cap etc.

Few more jobs done, rear stripped,rear wiring for lights done, after a phone call to Chris petrol cap off (I was being to gentle) as I'm moving the filler cap, Front and side indicators positioned and ready, Boot latch/handle in place and a few other bits. Rear light plinth eventually done, that took a lot of filler and rubbing down.

Started selling some of the bits I've removed off the Z3 on ebay, not going for as much as I thought they would, must be you buggers who have already stripped your cars bringing the prices down

Serves you right for believing the prices in the Bertini adverts !!!

I got £100 for the bonnet, £35 for the bootlid and £97 for the wheels (two good tyres) but as they say- every little helps...

First fit of the bonnet, bit of a pig to do and some pretty large shut lines, so some work to do there. Whilst it on will figure out the front wiring. Going to try and put the backside on tomorrow just waiting for the gunk round the filler cap to dry first though. Certainly getting through sanding disks.

Got the bum on today after spending the morning getting the bonnet to open, kept sticking shut. Panels will need a lot of fettling as the gaps are all over the place. I am a bit worried about the fuel pipe rubbing against the wing. I'm moving the filler cap to the top of the wing so have got a flexi pipe coming out of original filler cap, just looks very tight fit and bend.

Well I hope it's not to sunny this weekend as I decided the parasol would make a good bonnet support, collapses in half and hooks across the front of the car, not trusting the plastic locking device it also has a bolt through the middle.

Got my new registration today. Rear lights all wired in, some nice shiny tail pipes in place. Hopefully get the front wiring finished tomorrow so be able to test it all out.
