Default Boot

Have been trying to fit a lock to my boot. Found a VW lidlock with finger plate , its just long enough to get through double skin boot. Took awhile and had to make new striker. Also had to bond in a metal plate inside boot to reinforce lock opening as outer fibre quite thin.

Thats improved the look of the wheels no-end. How are you going to hold the spinners on?

I like the boot catch too. Its a bit like the 250 door catch. Any plans to remove the mazda one and fit those instead?
on my boot I hope to use the remote release mechanism, but Im not there yet. The catch looks good. Warm enough in the garage today??

Roger, love the wheel treatment, you have managed to lose 40 years off their appearance

That VW lock works really well too, how much was it?

Your parcel of goodies is packed and will be posted tomorrow.

That's what we have done, but you need to fit a spring to push the lid up in the absence of the springs on the original hinges.

Heres my spinners, currently stuck on with a bit of tape![IMG][/IMG]

You can see I have been doodling on the body, playing around with vent styles.
Its kind of a retro paintshop for luddites, Chris!

Thanks Chris, Good point. I thought I may be able to use the original hinge and spring set up? You may have already tried this?

Yes, the hinges will bolt to the new GRP parcel shelf via the rear captive nut on the hinge boxes and you will need to form a couple of small brackets to pick up the other mounting points too. Bolt the hinges to the inner skin of the boot and offer it up into the opening. You may be able to cut and weld the springs as well but I haven't done it because it closes down the opening into the boot area too much. I like Rogers external hinges, and will probably go that route on our next demo build over the winter.

I have got some of those spinners (Europa £19 the set?) for the A352 wheels. I just need to form a mounting stand for them, probably moulded from a spray tin lid or similar.

Have a look at Nissan micra nose grilles for the wing, but don't tell anyone else that I said that

Ah, now I understand. A small spring close to the catch will be better . Many thanks. N

Genius!!! I've been looking for a suitable set of grilles for the wings. I would have never looked at a Micra that's for sure...

The beauty of the VW lid lock it has the finger guard to lift the boot. You can get rid of those horrible big hinges , go for the external mini ones like mine. Gives much more room. Also no boot release in the car, no bending in to open up. With this lock you just walk up and unlock it (another key I know ). Simples

I have removed the mazda springs, lots more room. The remote cables boot and cap are gone.the external mini hinges work fine and with the lock and fuel cap look old.
It was so cold i had to sit rattle can in bucket of hot water for 10 mins to be able to spray. The wheels have a 60mm diameter center hole for the image center caps, made a 25mm long collar with grub screw ( they were tight anyway) and then a smaller collar inside that to sit the spinners on.

Default Boot lock

This shows how much room you get without those hinges, had to make this catch shown in black to pickup VW lock

Mmm, I do have electric/remote door and boot release, so am still tempted to use the original catch, but never say never!
Played around with a different front vent look, using my advanced photoshop techniques..[IMG][/IMG]

Guess the marque of inspiration?
