No rush for the numbers Gary although the Monza cap and straps will be needed in approx 2 weeks time. If you cant get hold of them before then its not a problem, I will get some off ebay if you are happy to knock the price off my next kit?

I managed to do an hour or so today and started to look at the dash. Ive cut out the shape and layout that I wanted and have bonded it in with the help of some tempoary screws to hold it in place. The plan is to get some nice polished aluminium cut to shape around the instruments going down to the gear box surround once the car has been sprayed.

I have managed to get all of the little jobs done over the past day and a half and the car has now gone off to the body shop for its paint job.

Here is a pic of it before it left

Well I got a call today from the spray shop to say the Spyder will be ready to collect tomorrow so I went to have a quick look. The paint job is not too bad.

The bonnet needs some ajustment as it looks like they have taken it off to paint and its not gone back on very straight but fingers crossed it will go back to where it was without any problems.

On that note, my MOT is still valid from when it was a Herald. Do I need to get a new one before taking it out on the road? I have a tax disk with SAMMIO as the model so all is fine there.

I have the same thoughts. My Vitesse was MOT'd until June, so theoretically it will still be legal. However, my thoughts are to get a new MOT done anyway as it should be a simple process, but at least you will get someone independent to check you have tightened up all the important nuts and bolts! (I confess to having missed a few tierod nuts and things off in rebuilds I have done before that the MOT man picked up on, thankfully!

That makes sense. I think that my MOT runs out at the end of May anyway so should get 13 months if all is well. I have to go to my local MOT place anyway as they are supplying my new tires.

The paint is good on the body but the bonnet has a few bubbles that have come up. The paint shop has said that they will respray it but cant do it for at least 2 weeks so Im going to get all of the remaining jobs done while I wait. I dont know if the car will be ready for stoneleigh next week but if it is, it wont be in as good of condition as I had hoped.

ARE THEY IN AN AREA WHERE YOU COULD JUST PRICK THEM AND COVER WITH A ROUNDALL OR PERIOD STICKER ?

Just a thought ....could be a temporary or permanent solution...

Its a possability, some of the smaller bits are where the stick on plate will go anyway but there is one large one about a third of the way from the front of the bonnet in the dip on the drivers side. I could put the roundel over it but its not ideal placement for it, I wanted it on the other side and further up.

On the subject of roundels ive decided on the number 74. I think my kit is probably somewhere in the 80's but without knowing for sure I decided to add up the ages for my 2 kids, my wife and myself and use that.

Ive been working on the car this week and have all of the lights on and wired up and the seats in with the floor carpeted and looking quite cosy! I still need to fit the mirrors, horn and trim the interior walls and that should be the car almost finished. After that I will wait untill the bonnet has been resprayed before fitting a new grill (the beer crate grill is held in place as a temporary measure) and putting the race numbers and stick on plate onto the car.

I will put on some pictures tomorrow. I had intended to finish trimming the interior and take some pictures today but rain stopped play. I did drive the car the 500 meters to the tyre shop and the performance was breath taking. Literally breath taking as my head is right in the airflow so I had to hunch down which seemed to work although I wont be driving it again without wearing my ballistic sunglasses or buying some goggles.

Im not going to find enough free time to finish the interior off to get the car to stoneleigh but to be honest the weather on Monday isnt looking good enough to take it then anyway and I cant make it on Sunday.

Grill and number plate are just temporary until the bonnet is resprayed next week
