Hi,

Temporay cover is pretty expensive, even for a little bog-stasndard car. If you need to move car to new place of storage, probably cheaper to pay somebody to trailer it.

My understanding is that if you insure a car over the phone, you are legally entitled to return the documents within 14 days. Sneaky, immoral, but I think, legal. My insurers say they will charge for the time the car has been on cover, but they only told me that in a general conversation. I didn't ask if they "frowned" at such behaviour. It could be that it's an easy way for them to give you temporary cover ... I mean ... if they have to do it anyway....

Perhaps an anonymous phone call to one of the specialists, see how they feel about such a ploy.

Otherwise, Google "DAY COVER", you should get a choice of insurers.

Good luck.

Just FYI, if its of interest, a quick Google revealed this kind of thing: (via RAC)

''Temporary Car Insurance

Pay-by-day car insurance for 1 to 28 days.

Comprehensive cover available immediately

Drive another car - or insure extra drivers in your car

Available for cars and vans (up to 3.5 tonnes)

First 2 days from £10 per day - more days from just £4 per day

Prices exclude insurance premium tax''

- Obviously other temp car cover is available, but as always, read the small print.

Hi Nike55,

Those seem quite affordable figures, particularly when postage will account for at least £0.50.

I enquired about one day cover to get a Honda Acty (600cc) based campervan home. I have 3 lots of full NCB, my licence has been clean for forty years, but I was still quoted £34 for one day's cover. Perhaps they were frowning at me being born before WW2? In the event, the bidding on the Honda went way over my budget.

Whatever, it would be interesting to hear what Semprelotus was actually quoted.

Depends from whom you obtain quote I guess, some marketing types may feel their company has to offer a quote to be seen to be market competitive in the eyes of their shareholders or management, but in reality will offer a quote over and above the norm to appease the underwriters.
