Paul L, I to have recently lost a pancake filter so I went for the K&A filter approach as I just happened to have them unused on the shelf.

Mike – I like those K&N filters.

Evening Gathering

Date – Wednesday, 25th July 2018

Location - West Lodge Park hotel, EN4 0PY

Time – 7pm (ish)

Nothing fancy, just a chance for me to see Kidge’s beautiful 275 in person.

Hopefully it will be a nice evening and the invite is open to all.

Cheers, Paul.

Edit/Update
Andy is going to bring his 250SWB along too.

Insurance Renewal:
I started my first insurance policy before the car was on the road and I've just renewed it.

It was still in primer this time last year, so now that it has been painted I've increase the agreed value.
( With reference to Mister Towed Spyder and the Miglia that went to Hong Kong. )

I'm with A-Plan and they have a check list of photos required to support the valuation.

I had most of them, but just needed a few extra ones which I took this afternoon…

Cockpit:

Hopefully, by this time next year I will have some aluminium panels on the cockpit walls.

Engine Bay:

I then took the car for a drive, although it did feel like thunder and lightening were about to arrive at any minute.

So just one quick stop for photos, and you can just about see the game of cricket going on in the background.

I do like seeing trees in the background.

Until next time, take care, Paul.

There is always a debate about how much these cars are worth.

Personally, I think you would need to spend a LOT of money on a car to get this sort of reaction.

https://youtu.be/eLS-QQwL5ss

To me, the joy my car gives others is simply priceless.

This clip was taken this morning on my sight seeing trip.

But more on that later, as I've got to go now...

Mike - Happy for the clip to be used on your website on one small condition...

It is pitched positively as evidence of the joy these cars bring to others.

As this bloke really made my day.

Cheers, Paul.

I think however that Egdik should put a silver and black license plate on the rear of his 275 to match the front plate.

Mr T & NeilF355 - Cheers.

Evening Meeting:
After a long day at work it was still hot and sunny as I headed off to meet Kidge/Egdik and Andy/ericholm.

Just one minor detour on route, although the wind nearly blew my directions away which would have been a problem.

Kidge and his wife were there when I arrived and Andy and his daughter followed shortly after.

It is good to meet people from the forum and see/talk about their cars/builds.

It is funny how all three of us know all the small faults in our own cars, but just see the great overall effect in other people's cars.

Personally, I loved both of their cars.

As the sun was starting to set, we decided to drive to the end of the car park to get some photos.

I'm now used to my bonnet opening fully forwards, so it seems 'odd' to see Tribute bonnets opening the other way.

I also really liked this badge.

With both Andy & I relying on Lucas/The Prince of Darkness we headed home before night fell.

Then, for a short stretch of the M25 I had:
- A golden sunset to my right
- The back end of Kidge's 275 just ahead of me
- Warm wind blowing over me as I drove in a T-Shirt

Which all adds up to a great evening.

London Sightseeing:
I've just realised I didn't actually post I the photos I took last Sunday.

It started the night before, when I parked the car in the street.

This allowed me to unwrap the car as dawn was breaking.

Thankfully, the road slopes downhill from my house, so I started pushing it before jumping in.

I then freewheeled down the road to a spot with less houses around before starting the engine.

It was only when I got close to town that I stopped to fit the GoPro.

As it turned out, I'd picked a nice spot to park.

Unfortunately, I did order a new Microphone with a longer lead, but I was sent the wrong one.

So this sight seeing video will have to be set to music when I get a chance to finish the editing.

Until next time, take care, Paul.

I think yours would look good on old plates. Keith

Keith – I know some people ‘forget’ to remove/swap their black and white/silver ‘show’ plates.

But, my personal philosophy is to try my best to be…

Back in the 1980s, riding a motorcycle in the era before ANPR meant getting pulled over a LOT.

So I always carried my licence, registration, insurance & MOT, displayed my tax disc, didn’t drink and drive or have bald tyres, etc.

I found that the combination of being ‘Rat Legal’ and being polite when talking to the Police was always good thing.

So far, I’ve only been pulled over once in the Swordfish and ended up having a friendly chat with the police.

Which I thought was a pretty good result given that a demented pedestrian had just accused me of attempted murder.

So I just need to wait until 2021 to claim VHI status and finally switch to classic B/W plates.

Cheers, Paul.

I found this on tinterweb,
When it comes to the legalities of these old style plates, officially from April 2015 vehicles registered before the 1st of January 1975 can legally display a black & silver number plate providing they are registered with the Historic Vehicles taxation class.

I thought you were 1965?

Only my registration number is a 1965 C plate.

The donor car is actually a 1980 V reg.

So the B/W number plate rules apply to this 1980 date.

Sorry for any confusion, Paul.

Busy - Just dropping in to say things are completely bonkers at work.

Yesterday I was the train station before 6am in the morning and didn't return until gone 9pm in the evening.

So absolutely no chance of taking the car out for a spin at the moment.
( I racked up 20 hours of work over the weekend. )

With a bit of luck, I might be able to get out over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Cheers, Paul.

We have been very lucky with the weather this year ...lots of decent driving days ...temperature doesn't bother me too much , you can dress accordingly , but these cars aren't ideal in the wet !

Hopefully I will have mine sorted for next year ....

Sunny September:
My current 'real work' project finishes next week, so I will have some time then to write replies and do a proper update.

In the mean time, I will leave you with some photos taken earlier today.

Until next time, take care, Paul.
