that dosent sound right to me if you put "tribute auto" on the forms and sent them photos of the build and receipts for the kit and parts used the log book needs to say what it is now not what it was registered my tribute mrs 200 in june last year i put "tribute mrs200" on the forms and thats what it says on the new v5 says nothing about it being a toyota mr2 ithink that needs sorting out, regards . mick

Default dvla

i would go for something like "tribute 250 coupe " and lose the "bmw" part if you can because this is what it now is, it might confuse mr plod if you get a vin check dont forget you can only have a maximum of 16 characters in the name. I think from past experience the v5 should relate to what you have made it into, not what it was , regarding insurance /mot /road tax etc

I sent my paperwork back asking for BMW (make) and Italia 250 (model) and that's exactly how it came back.
Graham (Tigga) sent his off as a Tribute Spyder, or something similar, and it came back as a Spyder convertible.

I'd send it back as the Z3 part should be removed for a kit conversion, it's their rule I was told.

Bob.

The Tribute range of re bodies should really have standard names in the title on the V5. Eg Tribute Kobra , Tribute Z300s etc. That is what has been built after all. If everyone comes up with different V5 titles it could all end in a mess in the future once the car is sold on a few times. The new owners / plod won't know what they have and DVLA will have another string in its bow to clamp down on kit cars !

Make "Tribute California" (I had requested Tribute 250 California), no mention of BMW. When checking tax & MOT you have to put Tribute California as the make or it doesn't show up.

Just filled the form in with pictures, before & after (unpainted) and an invoice from Chris and it came back in 5 days.

I did keep a copy of the original V5 as it shows the original make model along with VIN and engine number, maybe useful when selling.

How does it work with MOT? When I took my Quantum for its first MOT (new reg number- age related) he nearly put the make/model on the computer as "Ford Kitcar", butI insisted he entered it as shown on V5 Quantum Saloon - thankfully he did this. When he enters the reg no each time now it just comes up with Quantum Saloon. But he said once there is a name entered against the number it always comes up with that (it doesn't search the v5 records. Maybe it's a new system since the old computer?

Ian A got Z300S BARCHETTA as Make with nothing in the Type field. No mention of BMW.

Registration now changed.

Hi,

I know I am late to the discussion but when I got mine re-registered I called the DLVA and spoke with the lady who deals with kits, she said that mine had to remain a make of BMW so we finally agreed on Make "BMW TRIBUTE 250" but Model was left blank. Reading all the thread looks like some major inconsistancy with naming of these things, sounds like it depends who is processing the paper work and if it is a Friday afternoon or not

That's pretty much how it is ...my customer has been told to MOT the car before they'll agree to any changes ...
