Default Z3 power!

Im looking to get the maximum power out of my 2.8 Z3 without any major work.

My 1st thought is and induction kit but ive heard that if you dont get the right one then it can actually reduce air flow? So my question is 'which is the right 1?'

My 2nd thought would be a de-cat pipe but i can only seem to find them for sale for the 1.9l Z3?! And along with this id be looking at changing the backbox. but again, which is best and which is best value for money in relation to the extra performance?

And finally, is ot worth spending £300-£600 getting your ecu remapped after adding these modifications?

Advice is appreciated!

Hello Danny,

This is the best and most comprehensive reply i have had so far,

Sorry for my late reply, please see my suggestions below, all prices include vat, and power gains are typical estimates :

- Intake ...decent ones run from £250 – 900.00 gbp, please indicate preferred price range so I can advise you better ? + 5 bhp

- M54 manifold ....do NOT do this on your particular car, not worth it .

- Pulley kit ....effective and good value, Rogue Engineering £195.00 + 3 – 5 bhp, better throttle response

- Head porting etc ... can be very costly, only really worth it if doing other internal works such as cams etc ? Options for head work vary, from £600 to £2500.00 (more expensive option = bigger valves/ Inconel / 5 angle seats/ radiusing etc) up to + 28 bhp.

- Cams ...Schrick brand, £770.00 / pair up to + 10 bhp, better throttle reaction

- Plasma coils ...often overlooked by others, totally worth the expense, + 4 – 6 bhp every time and performance does not degrade with hard use /heat like the BMW versions . http://ca-int.co.uk/single_prod-cHJvZF9pZD0yMjYx.html

- Exhaust ...I suggest Eisenmann for the rear muffler, see www.eienmann.co.uk , we will offer you 20% discount if you are also buying at least one other item J Also see www.Supersprint.com

Alternately, opt for a supercharger kit at between £4100.00 and £5500.00 (according to power level) and forget all the above tuning items expect the exhaust and plasma coils ;-) You get more power for your money, and its a wider spread of power too. Options from 290 to 350 bhp. You can begin at the lower and less costly end and then upgrade to higher level kits (its only a change of software, injectors and compressor pulley) as the desire and bank balance allows

I hope this helps your deliberations, feel free to ask any more questions or indeed |I am happy to cal you to discuss if you prefer

This is for a 2000 auto 2.8

Going remap and pulleys while I save for a stupidcharger.

Regards

Lumpy.

Hi Danny, my other half has a Lexus sc430 4.3 v8 remap on rolling road gave it nearly 400hp that's nearly 100hp gain plus it does 2 mpg more which is a good do when it only did 23mpg to start with. She had an Audi TT quattro 225 hp years ago and the remap and induction made no real difference a friend had a 2.2 diesel Citroen mapped and it was ridiculous how much performance and mpg it added. He now has a merc sprinter with particulate filter removed induduction kit and remap it does more mpg doesn't smoke but he was disappointed as to the performance gain. So I would say contact a chip tuning specialist and ask if they would recommend doing it as each vehicle model seems to vary a lot. As a side note the team that did the Lexus changed the auxiliary drive belt for a gator manufactured one and he said it added 1.5 HP before he started the remap hard to believe I know although it is about 3 yards long on a v8. Ed.
P.s the Lexus with the stand alone computer running the map was barely driveable as the thing struggles with corners as it is. My lunatic friend wanted to see what power he could get out of the Lexus vvti lump before he stumped up the cash to mate one to a hilux gearbox in his comp safari racing off roader. By barely driveable I mean the auto box didn't know what was going on as its vague at the best of times and wheel spin was to be expected. She loves the car and has had it for years and won't change it I on the other hand can't recall the last time I drove it. Ed.
