On another note, I have two remaining issues...
1. The fuel guage doesn't work! I have the original Vitesse Fuel guage, and the Spitfire Sender unit in the tank. On reading about Dave's similar problem solved with a Voltage Stabiliser, I looked on Rimmers and they list one for Mk1,2 & 3 and a seperate one for the Mk4. How do I know what one I need, as I got my tank off ebay as a Spitfire Tank. No other details! Help?
2. The temperature guage doesn't work - I am asssuming this is the sender unit, so I will order one up and try that first! I can't remember if it worked in teh old Vitesse or not, as I didn't really use the car for 4 years!

Look nice, hope you were happy with the quality.
Does the temp gauge also rely on the voltage stabiliser by chance?

I just went with the stabiliser/regulator thingy that was on the back of one of the GT6 speedos i bought as after some reading all they do is efficitevely take the volts from 12 to 10. (well... it's not that simple, but that'll do)
In case it's of any use, the same stabiliser unit was also on the back of a Herald speedo i bought! yup, i tried a lot of speedos
Even without that in place both my fuel gauge and temp gauge were working, they were just over reading.

You can check the sender unit for continuity with a multimeter. The voltage stabiliser does what it says and just keeps the voltage the same or else as the dynamo or alternator increases the gauge wold go up. If you earth the wire from the temperature sender unit or join the two wires on the tank sender unit the respective gauge should go to maximum. Hope this helps.

I've got a hybrid Spitfire sender/Vitesse gauge at the moment and it works fine. I don't want to teach you to suck eggs but have you attached the earth leads to the frame?

TriTone - I've just printed details of the locking bonnet pins you've used. 
Do you have any info on the bonnet strap / springs?
