Hi Phil, always a pleasure to meet up with you. Racing was good at Snetterton, couple of Morgan three wheelers beat everything in the wet!

Shame the paddock was a bit light this year, none of the usual Maseratis, but it was probably a bit too soon after Goodwood this year.

Hope you didn't get too wet on your way back and your car ran better than it did on the way there.

Only took the one picture as you were leaving -

See you soon.

Default End of an era.

With genuine sadness in my heart I waved goodbye to my Spyder this morning as it was taken away to meet its new owner.

It's been a truly wonderful experience building, owning and enjoying this car. I picked up the donor more than six years ago now, way back in the spring of 2011, and collected my body shell, frame and a few extras from Gary J a couple of months later.

Two years of spare time working on the car resulted in something far better than what I thought I could achieve, and from day one driving it, other people began to express absolute joy at seeing it on the road. Indeed, the first time I drove it after it passed its MOT, I got less than a mile away from home before a young trendy chap made me an offer of a direct swap for a brand-new and quite sporty looking Vauxhall Astra. I laughed and said something like 'You're kidding, right?' to which he replied 'No, I'm serious.' So, I could have parted with it there and then, but instead chose to use and enjoy the car myself.

So, four years on the road, about seven thousand miles, four Goodwood Revivals, two brass monkey runs, many visits to other historic racing events, one breakdown, two real soakings when caught out in torrential rain and having made some really good friends along the way, the time came to part with my pride and joy to make space to build another dream car of mine, a 356 Speedster.

That car will have its own build thread soon and the time has come for me to end this 'on the road' thread as I am, for the time being, confined to the pavement unless using my modern tin-top, which just isn't the same. I'll keep my eyes on the Sammio pages though as I'm keen to see some of the long-term projects finally get finished and I'm always happy to give advice if anyone thinks I can help.

So, it's until next time rather than goodbye, and here's the promised picture of my beloved Spyder leaving me to begin a new life with its new owner -

Not that anyone's going to be interested, but Cinderella has now arrived at the ball and is making new friends -

I was really sad to see my Spyder leave, but I'm so happy it's going to be enjoying a good life in a nice, warm garage with some quite nice cars for company...

Ha ha, no, she was really sad to see it go, in fact she didn't want me to sell it. Due to my retirement package being quite generous we really didn't need the money, which goes some way to explain why I was able to refuse offers and wait for the right buyer to come along.

Btw, both my wife and the chap who fitted the roundels thought I should have put it up for a sum above £30k. Who knows, it might even have found a buyer at that price, but I'm really happy that it's gone to someone who clearly loves cars.

Yep, I rather liked it too. Not only a heated trailer, but refrigerated if necessary too! No back of a Transit flatbed for my baby...

Mister Towed – The end of an era indeed.

The new ring around your exhaust exit is another nice touch.

Thanks for all the years of inspiration, help and support, I would never have got my Swordfish on the road without you and your car.

Good luck with the 356, take care, Paul.

End of an era, start of a new one

Looks like it couldn't have gone to a better home. Price you got was amazing and I'll be the first to admit I thought it was optimistic but after reading your rationale in another thread I thought, yeah why not and I think it is an outlook I will use when I sell my cars in the future. Add the value, build the dream

Cracking transporter as well, not seen one of those before.

Mr.Towed;Sad to see the car go...From the start of my build I follow this forum and was inspired by reading and looking at photo,s from all the builders.

Now I see them all being sold and there is left less to look at and read about.
I can understand why these cars are sold;building one is the great adventure!
For the time being i am enjoying driving my Sammio, but sometimes I am also tempted to start something new.

Fortunately we still have builders like Paul L and others to make reading this
forum a weekly joy!

I understand what you are saying Jerome ..part of the problem is that the S*mmio range isn't actively being promoted at the moment . There is the odd one being built and a couple of Miglia's on the go ...but not much new , I agree ...
The original body would massively benefit from a bit of tidying up , correcting etc. and re-moulding ...it's still a very popular body style and continues to have interest in it ...

The Formosa range might keep your interest active though ...my build for Graham is nearly there , but there are 2 others out there being started very soon , if not already , and I am about to launch the kit properly in the next week or so , so hopefully a few more will be popping up in the near future ...
