Smile Excited Newbee

Hi everyone. My name is Dave Lowes, I have ordered my MX250 kit and will hopefully be collecting it soon. I have built a few kits but have never done one with the support of a forum so thought I would give it a go. I will post back once I have collected it. Look forward to talking with you all soon.

Can anyone tell me what other cars wheels will fit the MX5. Also for the tribute do you need a different offset? I want to fill the arch. I have lowered the car already so am not sure what the maximum rim diameter would be. Thanks.

Ah the ultimate quest!

Studs are 4 x 100 (PCD)

Standard wheels are 6J (width at rim) with an offset of 43 (et)

Chris's red demo car has
front 7.5j 20et
rear 9j 15et with a 25mm spacer.

I think 17" rims are a bit tight, but if you have real low profiles, like rubber bands, you may do it.

Loads of stuff on the Mazda forums like MXnuts etc

On the rear from the Mazda hub to a plumb line to the wing edge is six inches. Deduct one inch for the wheel arch lip and you need to make 5" (127mm), which I suppose is on a 9j (228mm).... 228 divided by two is 114, less 127 is -13mm offset or ....well now I have confused my self, but zero et on the rears would do it.

This site is useful...

Also, if your thinking of going bigger in the tyre department......

http://ejelta.com/tiresize/index.html

Most of the Ebay alloy wheel suppliers cant do a 9j in a 15" so you will have to go up to 16" rims, then you can get almost what you want, and more tyres are available.

You never know what is coming up on Ebay, pistonheads etc.....but I think I am going to get banded steels made so they are justb right with maximum dish.

cheers,
Nick

Ah Nick, my upaid helper! Thank you.

Dave, Welcome aboard. Sorry for the delay in answering but Nick has for me anyway, and completely correctly of course.

Wheel choice is a very personal thing, but if you like the wheels on our demo car try these on Ebay:

Don't bid, just let me know if you want them, as I know the guy who is selling them

Looking forward to meeting you when you pick up your kit in August, and hope to see a build tread follow shortly after that.

You get used to it!

I'm looking forward to seeing a few more of these 250 builds as my wife has expressed that if/when i do ever build another car then it needs to have a roof! and doors.... and a heater... possibly a radio...

you get the idea

Woo hoo. picked my kit up today. very happy with it and especially with the service provided at Tribute, second to none, thanks guys. Took a lifetime to drive back to Cardiff with all the caravanners out on the road. Just need to get a Mk3 Spitfire and a moggy1000 off the drive and I can get it in the garage. Hope everyone elses builds are going well. Will have to arrange a meet next year with all the other MX250's

Hi Dave, great to meet you yesterday and glad you are happy with the kit
Good luck with the sale of the Spitfire and Moggy, shouldn't be long before you can crack on with the MX5. I llook forward to seeing your progress.

An MX250 meet next year is a great idea, should be a few done by the next Stoneleigh Show I hope
