This is what we did to the Formosa ..it takes a lot of the flex out and creates inner wings too ...

12mm plywood bonded and glassed in place and then flo coated ..

scimjim It might be worth a go and save some time.
Are you heading my way over the weekend?

lancelot link That's a worth while idea.
The extra rigidity and weight should also stop the bonnet "lifting" at speed.

Bonded the two bodies together along the bulkhead.

I'm amazed at how well they fit together.

I also bonded the body side to the chassis along the door shuts again they fit really well.

I'll add some fiberglass matting later just to seal everything.

THAT LOOKS LIKE PINK GRIP TO ME ...Its widely available in Screwfix type outlets ...I use a variety of different ones , again 'borrowed' from the building trade as its does the same job as the Automotive stuff but about a third of the price ...

deni There's lots of different bonding agent on the market and each person will support one or the other.
Personally I to use various bonding agent for various jobs but mainly these three.

The Bonding paste is really good stuff and make a strong ridged joint but needs to be mixed with eather catalyst or hardener so can be messy.

The "Stixall" is a very good silicon adhesive and remains flexible so is ideal for fixing down fuel tanks and windscreen but at around £6 per tube it's not cheap.

At just over £2 per tube "Pinkgrip" it a inexpensive filler/adhesive that is easy to use, takes a while to set, holds well but it's not flexible, also it's self life once opened is short.

I like the Stixall as well ...I think I pay about £4 something locally , but I have had an account with the same firm for over 20 years ...
even at £6 its still cheaper than Sikkoflex and Tiger seal and they come in smaller tubes .....

There are a couple of sikka products around the £6 mark too ..

Boot lid fits nicely.

I used the original Triumph Spitfire fuel cap and original Triumph Herald boot hinges

The standard Triumph Herald hinges fit the body profile perfectly allowing the boot to open smoothly.

The next big issue is the dash lay-out.

I think Stixall is Polyurethane, which is quite different to silicone (although it looks similar)

I am keeping the front light set-up fairly standard

I will replace the front and rear number plates with stick-on period "show only", plates after the MOT is passed .

A standard Ford Cortina radiator fitted nicely between the chassis rails and bolted to the chassis cross member.
The lower coolant hose route took a little effort to work-out but the top hose was a simple fit.
I will fit some upper supporting brackets later

After switching a few crossed wires every thing tested OK so I'll try and fire it up in the morning.

Mike - Looks like you could have this finished and painted just as Spring arrives.

Good luck, Paul.
