Default Need short wiper arms and blades.

Hi,

This is a query about my 1959 Land Rover, but as I am rebuilding onto a new chassis, there is a sort of kit car association.

The early land Rovers had one motor per wiper, fitted close under the screen. Later Land Rovers used cable drive to wheel boxes, which were fitted lower down. There is about two inches difference in the length of ARM+BLADE .... two much to "bend out". Early arms and blades are virtually NLA.

I need an arm + blade with an overal length of 36cm (call it 14"). I was wondering if a 2CV would be a suitable donor? Or even Volvo headlamp wipers?

I can't be the first person to have met this problem.

For the record, my Landy has done less than 50,000 miles, and less tha 200 miles since the last MOT ... in 1974.

Hi,

Thanks for that heads up.

As far as I could make out, Scotty shortened his blades, which is something I would prefer to avoid. If there are, say, 1000 vehicles that are all eventually going to meet this problem, then an easier answer need to be found.

If there is no "off the shelf" arms that are suitable, then maybe there is a niche for somebody who is able to cut and shut stainless arms, with a high quality overlap weld. Maybe MS could be brazed, then stove enamelled black?
What overlap would be needed? 10mm? 20mm?

Volvo head lamp wiper blades are available (I'm told) in 7.5".

Have you tried the series one owners club forum? My Locust has a Renault 4 wiper assembly with cut down blades. No problem they have lasted 20 years so far.
