You need the hi torque starter motor.

The standard Pinto was .9kw the banger, grass and track boys use the higher rated 1.4kw motor.

I am looking for one myself but the scrap yards are cleared by the racers.

eBay at about £120 is an option!

If you are really up for it you could do what the banger boys do and run the starter (only) on 24 volt, that makes it wing a bit.

The motor will operate happily on 24 volt; they will fail sooner than if operated on 12 volts but we are talking about running over a race season without failure.

The second battery can be just a small race NiCad but you will need some fancy relay arrangement to charge it but is a fast fix.
