YES MATE ....Really good chassis all freshly painted by previous owner and partially dismantled helped speed things up a bit ...she's been off the road for a few years so will need to play around to get her started up ..but I'm A352'ing at the moment , so won't invest the time until the V5 arrives ...
I've started the Cordite project as well ... I will update that thread later ...

Well that car is in Italy now ...
I have just bought this ....
Local to me ..been sat for a couple of years , earlyish 1200 , didn't know it was there and driven past the house several times ...
I have been offered a S*mmio bodyshell too ..possibly part of a frame but its been cut in half apparently and some bits cut off for other jobs ! but its only about 40 miles away and never fitted ...so looks like a plans coming together !!

Quick trip to Yeovil yesterday and I had the opportunity to observe a rare , lesser spotted S*mmio in its natural habitat as a hedge dweller ..
I have already prepared the donor Herald in anticipation of the body's arrival ..stripped and trimmed and a partial frame created to hold it all together ..... So with a quick 'slotting' of the rear outrigger holes , she was proudly sitting on her new home ...

Turns out that when I checked my records ( photocopies only - obviously the originals are in a vault in Swindon )...this is a rare intermediary model that was used in the early stages of Cordite production and was used for display purposes at shows to demonstrate the 2 different wheelbases on a rotisserie system ..

As with all kit cars , there are always several unfinished/ unstarted projects for every one that hits the road ....this figure will probably change with the easier to build 'glue-ons' etc.. but generally that was always the case ...
I have been very lucky to find some second hand S*mmio bodies and will continue to advertise for such ... The frame with this is suitable for box section donor duties only as its been cut in half , had some bits cut off and was left in the same hedge !!
I would be interested to learn where the one in Broadstone is , if Triumph Special is reading this ?
Also , the first Spit based one we did ...pre- Cordite , modified S*mmio with German front and one off doors etc. is still languishing in a garage about 10 miles away , so I am going to pursue that one as well ....

Hi Gary, I'll be coming back through Broadstone on Sunday. I'll detour to find the road name and rough address for you.

This is the pre-production Cordite style , modified S*mmio I refer to above ...I suspect , remembering the chap as I do , it will look exactly the same , just dustier !!

You're doing a good job of sweeping up the part builds and unstarted Sammios Gary, but I'm still waiting to see your next original design.
Slight technical question: Those MGF 'Minilites' look pretty good and they're ever so cheap now, can you remember if they needed spacers to clear the suspension or do they bolt straight on?

I can't totally remember Towed ..I have fitted them to a couple of examples and don't recall fitting spacers , but cant stand by it ..
The new design is happening , kind of , but slowly , Miglia body is ordered , should be with me sometime in the next 2 weeks and I have collected an assortment of bits and pieces to create shapes with ....I have a chassis ready to use as a jig ....I'm going to make this one slightly wider than the S*mmio's to get the wire wheels inboard a bit and the bonnet is going to have a sliding wheelbase like the Mistral ...the plan is that the body could be used on some alternative chassis if desired ..
My friend , the retired pattern maker from Sunseeker Boats is really pushing me to make a start ..so its close now ! Just need to fit it in around paying work ...

Thanks Gary, bit of research shows some people fit spacers, some don't.

Mr Towed I'v fitted these MGF wheel to a couple of cars and the do fit straight on the front axle but to fit the rear axle you need to remove a little bit off the hub flange to clear the wheel centers.
That said you also need the correct nut and washer combination which will cost you just under £70 a set.

Cheers Micky, after a bit of research it looks like the most sensible option is to use Mk1 Freelander M12x1.5 studs with MGF nuts. The studs are longer than the Triumph ones but it's a simple job to press out the old ones and press in the new.
I've got some spare hubs and a set of MGF 15" alloys laying about so I've ordered some studs and nuts to have a play and see how well they fit for a little project I have in mind. The studs and nuts came in at under £50 for twenty of each, btw.
I'm surprised you had to remove metal from the rear hub flanges, nobody else seems to have had that issue on the Spitfire forums I've been looking at. Perhaps it's peculiar to the Vitesse/GT6 hubs? I'll be able to check as I have both spare GT6 and Herlald rear hubs on the shelf.

Mr Towed, I brought a set of nuts and washers that bolt directly on to the existing triumph studs.
I'll try and find the shop's details.
The flanges I had to "shave" are the 3 that centre the rear brake drum.
I'll up-date a few photos when I'm back in the workshop.
