Handbrake tunnel - early stages
Spent the whole day pottering about with the handbrake tunnel as I want to fabricate something that looks as if it is there from day one, a rounded top profile and a slight cut away where the handbrake sits should help with this look I hope.
Undecided on final finish wether it will be vinyl with a bead around the cut out, carpet or maybe totally out of character with Carbon fibre covering it..
Liking the idea of putting the ignition key in under the Handbrake but will have to think more on that idea.
Still needs trimming but all in all its a recycled Triumph Herald boot lid

I wouldn't put the ignition key under the handbrake: that's where it is on my Saab and the alternator just expensively failed.
Surely, that's no coincidence, hmmn? Hmmn?

That prop tunnel is looking seriously good. At first sight I thought you'd cut the original floor section out of your donor and re-used it. Well done!

Nice. I would have ideally liked a curved tunnel, but I wasn't confident that i'd be able to do decent enough a job of it!

See how much my painted tunnel and gearbox cover have got knocked about already, and i'm not even on the road yet! i'd say you'd be best off covering it in "something" rather than just paint.

Well Christmas really did slow my build, thats another month home over so end of progress till Feb. Still should be a dramatic change then as everything is laid out ready to start glassing... I think.

Screen Option
If this is a Sammio here is another screen option, perhaps if the owner is a lurker then he /she could shed some more light on it?

The Brooklands 'screens do suit the shape and it looks really nice in silver. Hmm, I wonder...

Looks like a sammio spider to me. Does the radiator move with the bonnet?

Agreed about the lights and bumpers at the back - a bit busy imho. Not really liking the dash too much either.
As for the colour, on my laptop screen (which makes Phil Jacklin's BRG car look black) the 'Marlet' special looked like a Merc' smoke silver. On the link to the ad. it says dove grey but it looks bronze. I'm still torn between silver, black and various shades of red for mine atm. Decisions. Desicsions...

I'd be interested to hear why he's called it a Marlet Speical as it's certainly a Sammio Spyder from looking at the body and the internal frame.
I do like how he's done the "recessed" dashboard! i think that looks very clean, although with the central divider i dread to think how practical it all is
Those wind deflectors/shields (I'm being politically ambiguous after yesterday!) are quite nice as well, as these cars do suit a bit of chrome
Plus, from looking at those photobucket pics,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/7392333...in/photostream
aren't his rear shocks on upside down?

I think Shocks are the right way up but fully opened as the car is jacked up, sleeve is usually at the top. If his aren't right neither are mine...

Not seen those pictures before .....
Thats the car that features in the Getting Started page on my website.
We supplied it to a guy called Oliver from near Reading....I offered to register it for him and he declined ...spoke to my pal Owen in Newbury about the car and he knows someone who knows someone etc. and it appears young Olly wants to create his own version of the car and not refer to it as a Sammio...fair enough I guess....He bought 2 rolling projects , so theres another ''Marlet'' out there....
He appears to have done a decent job on the car , liking the colour and Brooklands screen...
I do think though , that in the same way the guy wanting to market his 2cv based car as his own creation found , people will identify it as a Sammio anyway.....
On a similar note , heres another one recently finished....

Barry , my buddy from Sarfend has just finished it and is already talking about doing another !!
HAPPY DAYS !
