Hi Roger.

GRP was designed for MX5 hardtop channels and rubbers, with the assumption that Mazda would want a reasonable amount of money for a new set . Go to your local Mazda dealer and make sure you are sat down before they tell you the cost. We used Vauxhall Calibra channels and rubbers on the red car, but it's on my list to re-do the moulds.

Ok. I used a seal from sealsdirect.co.uk. I can find the number if anyonewants it.
However I did bring the door shuts in to about 10mm from the glass.

ETS 2108 (seals direct part no.)
Plus some flocked rubber to glue on to make help the glass slide.
2 metres does it.

Nick
Is there any part of the body you haven't chopped up. You must love the feel of angle ground GRP dust !

Nick,
Have you considered cutting the OE boot section that divides the boot space? Is it possible or is it too structural for the rear of the car? This area just seems odd to me once the boot/trunk is opened and would be hard to trim/make look good..... just wondered if you had any thoughts of chopping it out and glassing in a full boot tray?

@Peepsy, yes, I have not touched the rear window!
Mind you, I haven't started on the front yet!

@ Sybez, You can't cut that bit out or you risk failing your inspection when you preregister it as a MX250. I quite like the separate boot bit. Keep the heavy shopping away from the eggs??
I think cutting it may risk adding unwanted flexibility, the last thing you want in a sports coupe!

I am DETERMINED to get off the sofa this eve!!

Riveting stuff!
put the rivets in, 5mm, counter bored with a 10mm flat bit.
[IMG][/IMG]

Despite tapering the GRP before gluing the shell on, there was still a bit of a dip in the join, so I put two more layers of chopped strand mat over the joint to fill the valley.
[IMG][/IMG]

Did the same to both sides, then applied one skim of filler over the lot with an 8" filling knife.
[IMG][/IMG]
That looks better!

I also glassed the b pillar joint as I had removed the original drop down bits of. GRP in my many 'fittings' of the shell.
Finally decided to fill the rear number plate recess. Since I have narrowed the body this is 4" too narrow fir a std number plate so rather than filling I laminated in 4 layers of GTP, and will gel coat over that.

Yes of course you may.
I actually drove it last week, just around the yard...braked a bit hard, and the front body shot off!!
I am sort of aiming for The Midwinter Celebration to get it moving on the road, but the sofa magnet does not help!

Oh how we laugh when we run over the bottom of the wing as the front slides off backing into the workshop! Mmmmm crunchy

Is that a Goodwood event?

The Midwinter Celebration is what most call 'Christmas'. A Pagan celebration to highlight the shortest day, and the days becoming longer, and the returning of the sun. The event was hijacked by the Christians, and warped by the Victorians. Finally, it was shafted by Consumerism!
So if you are, not a Christian, and are bored by the Christmas hype, then get back to basics and have a party!

I'll certainly be celebrating the Winter Solstice in the usual fashion...

Nicely done seanick - learning a lot from watching your progress, with interest and envy..

Spent some time filling and fairing the rear. The wing joins are now good as is the rear spoiler. The blanking of the numberplate needs more fairing,, but the joint to the body is nearly there. Not sure about the wing to panel body line, behind the door shut though. Looks a bit straight, si might need a tweak.
[IMG][/IMG]

Used sandpaper taped to a tube to get a consistent radius in the valley.

[IMG][/IMG]
Theres my big filling knife.

Time to have a go at the front.

GOING.........[IMG][/IMG]

GOING.......

GOING......

GONE!
[IMG][/IMG]

It was only when I gave it a skim of filler I realised there is quite a bump to fair out. I may have to cut out a section and laminate some more grp from behind to get it fair.

Faired in with only a very thin layer of filler...

[IMG][/IMG]

Time for the pub....
