Ahhh..... I see what you mean about the green. (I was thinking ford focus ST bright green !!) . Similar hues in grey, blue or pale lemon would give a good period feel too..

Nick, it looks like youre really moving it along, I love that youre not doing a Ferrari copy but have the same concept as I have of just recreating a 60's LM. Cant wait to get started on mine and the donor should be mine in the next 3-4 weeks. Where abouts are you located mate?

Whilst I am sure this could be done in CAD in an instant it took a bit of old fashioned trial and error.
This should lift the bonnet front up and over the rad filler and up to about 50°.
I plan to use the existing studs that bolted the raising light mechanism. make a simple plinth from angle about 5" high to mount the hinge on.

Told you the hinges were doing my head in. I found a couple of scissors on the bonnet of something Red ( cant remember what car) and have messed about pics show the deal. The hinges drop low enough below horizontal to raise vertically at first then out > fitte some ply and they look ok. Save making some up>

Thanks Peeps i, however I made these up this afternoon.....they bolt onto the old headlight mounts where there are two 8mm studs. They lift the bonnet right up and well clear of the front edge of the body. They need a bit more drilling for weight loss, but they work well, and rake the bonnet to approx 60 degrees. With a bit of tweaking they should go to 80 degrees.l[IMG][/IMG]
The end that is cut at an angle will have s plate welded to it to mount to the inner bonnet molding. I will have to put some extra bumps in to do this, but will probably use some of the inner molding I have cut out just repositioned. I have had to cut a lot away to get clearance for my sporty bits!

So thats about 20 hrs of thought and versions mk1 to4, and two hours to make the final thing!"

Did you go to the Brunel school of bonnet hinges. They are Ace.

While you are at it how about engineering a quick release mechanism into it for complete bonnet removal

Thanks Peeps, yes I think Brunel was pretty cool! They are pretty strong. I could get air lifted bout by them if need be. I have drilled them out a bit to save a few grams.....
Fitted them this eve.
Good idea John, all I can come up with is either wing nuts on the mounts or it would only be two nuts per side to split the hinges. I might weld up two of the bolts. Good idea!

Chopped out the middle of the bonnet inner molding (sorry Chris) to get clearance over my suspension brace, but also to use sections if the molding to add new hinge mounts further out....[IMG][/IMG]

Tomorrow Ill glass those new bits, glassing over some 6mm plate to tap into.
