Starke had a demo at the Las Vegas SEMA show, but in spite of them saying they had many orders, none have appeared.

+1 fella! The trouble with kit and turnkey/custom market is we are always going to offend someone. Iconic cars have their hard and fast following, but not everyone can either afford/build or construct them. Does this mean we should stifle our passions? Definately not. I love the original 356 car, but also think this is a very capable and polished interpretation from the photo. I know we do the same on here a bit by pushing what we believe is right or wrong, but sometimes people have to realise that different tastes or different strokes are what makes us unique and that shouldn’t stop people pursuing projects!
I absolutely love this forum for that “inclusive approach” and everyone’s engagement and encouragement whatever the vision of the builder.
(Caveat: 90% of the time!)

It is a lovely looking car and I can see where the conflicting opinions arise. However, given that it can never be a replica, I think the bonnet straps are a little silly rather than whimsical for example. It leads to the 'replica" line of comparison, when clearly, it cannot be. The car looks splendid without the tat.

I like it but not as nice as the original renderings, it looks a bit overdressed.
Lose the belts and the front spots. I would also like to see the wheel arches brought in a little too. Looks as if a boy racer has put wide wheels and arches on it.
Other than that I think it is very nice and would be tempted if it were available in kit form.

Less is more on these modern takes on old cars. The Fiat 500 , Mini etc take styling ques from the older cars they are inspired by but they don't try and replicate small details. To do so does make some people compare like for like which isn't the point.

It’s popped up all over Facebook Porsche pages it looks good to me (apart from whitewalls)

I don’t think people realise how big a Boxster is compared to a 356

I’d like to see a coupe /hardtop

I know I’ve posted these photos before, but I quite like the modern ‘old’ Mini & Fiat.

Mister Towed has also posted these photos showing the size of the modern Porsche.

So clearly the modern version of the Speedster is never going to be an exact replica.

Therefore, the question should be is this an improvement on the donor Boxter?

And I’d say yes.

Cheers, Paul.

PS
For those of us not in the know, what is/was the final story with DNA?

All the modern takes on older cars have one thing in common, they are a lot bigger.
As long as they market this one as a modern take and not a replica it should go down well. The proportions look right and it will appeal to those who like the retro style but with modern, real world practicalities.

I like it, but won’t ever be able to own one due to being US based.
I think it’s going to work well in solid colours like some of the prior CAD images.

I really like it. Needs to be smooth though. Such a classic design doesn’t need all that dressing.

And it’s better looking than a ‘which end is the front?’ Boxster in my view.

I wish the DNA guys all the best. They had s great product before and deserve success with this venture.

Dave

That shouldn't stop you, plenty of UK kits have made it over the USA.

?? there's about 7 being built now as we speak, that's without it being released yet officially

I picked up my boxster for £3200 with 55k on the clock with full history,
or you can get the 987 model for about £5k up depending on spec

I understand the logic, but to be fair, DNA have a great track record on quality.

This one isn’t being made as a kit though.

I’ve imported a kit to the US before from the UK, it pretty painless with the help of the right shipper. Funnily it was the first DNA kit shipped over here. Great quality. Hence being a bit of a DNA fan boy.

I’m sure it will drive better than my JPS 356 coupe or my intermeccanica speedster. After around 50mph on the freeway, they got so light in the front, it was an ‘exciting’ ride - which you don’t always want.

I’ve watched the development and final output of the Starke version and the back end of it is just plain nasty. The one built by West Coast Customs wasn’t much better. Hats off to Brian and gang for getting this one to look so good.

Great article. Looks superb. But starting at 50k turnkey may be challenging with 2010 911 Carrera cabriolet available for less.

Fingers crossed for it
