Default RV8 to Transit Gearbox - any information appreciated

Any one know if it's possible to fit a transit gearbox to a V8 rover engine?
Reason I ask is that they are cheap, robust and plentiful and best of all the gearstick is in just the right place for my kit car.
The early ones were Pinto engine and type 9 box I think , dont know about the 80's and 90's RWD transits though.

Any information would be helpfull

Pete
