Default Considering a build...

Hello all,

I've decided i want to build a kit car and after looking over the options I think that the 5exi is the best option for me. I have a few questions however. I live in Australia which presents some obvious hurdles in shipping, parts exchange etc. Has anyone had a car shipped/know someone who has? also, I was thinking of fitting a bike engine, such as the Kawasaki ZX10R is this possible?

Thanks,
Grassy

Hi Grassy.

Welcome.

The car originally started here.

http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=47&i=2923

I have read back then the orginal bike engine version was one of it's downfalls.

Not sure how available the donor's are over where you are. Rover, Honda K20 engine etc.

One engine of choice coming up is the VW/audi/skoda/Seat 1.8 turbo. Is this one more available for you?

Or buy and ship a complete one for sale???

Not sure on the whole shipping thing though.

Thanks for the info limpabit, we don't have rovers down under but Honda Civics are quite popular. I would've liked a bike engined 5exi but I think the Australian Design Rules (ADR) are actually stricter than the SVA but it's still worth a look (light weight + 200bhp = fun.) Shipping is going to be interesting I fear but I have a few friends over in the UK who may be able to help.

EDIT: just realised rover is Land Rover. D'oh!

Hi Grassy
It was pointed out to me that you had made an enquiry on madaboutkitcars about shipping a car to Australia. In fact we have done just this in the past but I believe the registration of such a vehicle is now much more difficult. I suggest that maybe you ask your local authorities what the requirements are as it can vary from state to state. If you like I could put you in touch with one of our Australian customers. Please contact me direct on terry@marlincars.co.uk
Regards
Terry
