with a little bit of googling, I came up with this.........

http://www.channel4.com/4car/news/ne...?news_id=16948

I think the Strathcarron pre-dated the 5exi?

It uses a Ford Duratec engine !

Hmm now I'm confused. We now have three companies in the mix from Strathcarron. Marlin, Javan and now MM Industries.

The Strathcarron was where the 5EXI orginated from.

Hi Guys,

I went to the Autosport show too......and there was the Javan R1 there (chassis no2 in the usual dark green...for sale £30K !!!!!) and this MM industries creation.

My theory is:-

The old strathcarron is the original for all of the designs. This then folded and moulds / prototype cars went wherever.....

Then up popped the 5exi, the Javan R1 and now the MM.

I agree with craig on ths MM....don't like what they have done to the bodywork.....and there are no hinged clams either.....so a pig to get to stuff.

Be interested to see price?

Rich

I think he said iro £20k.

Engine wise, it uses the Ford Duratec 2lt, with a slight tune.

The original Strathcarron from which the 5exi, Javan & Avocet was based around a Triumph 3cyl bike engine (iro 140bhp) with a monocoque chassis. I think Marlin is the only to make a space frame.

The official press release for the Avocet says:
'MM Industries, which now owns the former Strathcarron sportscar business, is presenting its production Avocet two-seater during the show's two trade days, prior to a public launch later in the year'

Spec is either 150bhp or 225bhp with an all up weight of 700kg.
It retains the original Reynard designed chassis, which has been further developed.

BTW - sorry guys, but I like the back end. Moulded lip spoiler, lights & back grill are excellent and gives it a more 'production car' finish.

There will also be a hard top!!!

I am thinking of mounting my wing mirrors in the same way, I think it is also the same as the Javan. Would there be any SVA issues ?

Like the idea of a hard top for the winter, wonder if it would fit the EXI. Be interesting to see how you get in and out without doors.

Nick

I don't think there will be any sva issue, but I suspect you'll find the mirrors are in a very annoying location, and block your vision more than is preferable.

John, are we talking cluster or dash? I presume cluster as yes that now looks familar, but the actual dash is and would crash my car into a tree if it looked like that

Thanks, I take your point . I was only thinking of the look from the outdside and not looking from the inside out.
