Unusually, there is a Sporster for sale on ebay.....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Marlin-Sportst...#ht_500wt_1156
It's a Ford based model with steel wheels.
Looks like an early one with the driver only roll-over bar. Not much history in the advert.
The listing says it was registered in 1998 and has a 2.8 V6 Ford engine.

Interesting, I see that the old purple demo car is also for sale on the Autotrader web site but for only £9,995. Not a bad buy if one wanted a ready made.

Now that you have driven yours, do you find the brakes are acceptable: I detect an underlying concern that I also have about 200HP and a less than adequate servo?

Mike
I replaced my original servo with a brand new old stock item last winter. The brakes are better - but I still don't get that "launch through the windscreen feeling" when standing hard on them.
My feeling is the problem is with the brake linings. OEM ones designed for use with a 6:1 servo - now being used with a 1.6:1 servo. I have been considering changing to EBC Green Stuff but they aren't cheap and I have heard varied reports about them. Still thinking about it....

Now here is one really on ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Marlin-Sportst...item2c5de900fd
part unbuilt kit and no engine! Worth about £500 by my reckoning...
The advertising write-up had me in stitches

Think I'm nearer to Peter's valuation than theirs...

Now let me see - do I go for this superbly advertised hot rod at a knock down price (ignore the age and lack of an engine!) or shall I spend that little bit more and buy a finished, painted, ex factory demo with an M3 engine?

Interesting, did you notice the size of the servo. I wonder if the brakes work any better!

Sad indeed and rather too much like me for comfort (build on hold while I look after my wife). Fortunately, however, although I have also purchased the bodywork and have a spare (parts) donor on the drive, I have the space and I do not intend to move. I am also stubborn and the only deadline is my DEADline!

Its me!
Hi all,
I just noticed this thread. My first post to this forum was my introduction to you all and maybe I should have posted it here! I was the fortunate purchaser of that Marlin on Ebay. I have visited and viewed the beast and I have to say that the seller is a great guy, really helpful and knowledgeable. He will store the Marlin for me for a short while to allow me to sort my garage out (the purchase caught me by surprise!!!) I will do my best to make sure that I complete it!
As one of you said, it is a really good starter and I lok forward to joining you more regularly here (I will need the help!)

Hi Oaktree
Congratulations on your purchase. You have certainly obtained a lot of car for what you paid: and the work carried out looks as though it was first class. As stated, a very good starting point.
I am sure you will receive all the help you need from the guys on this site.
Good luck and welcome to this site
Mike
