Bet they were a few quid to have made as one offs ! Perhaps you could let Richard borrow them so he can take a mold ? He could then make GRP copies for us mere mortals !

First attempt at posting a picture, probably doomed to failure.
If it does show, it is a Triumph radiator end panel, made in GRP and then vacuum chromed plated.
If someone could just distract Smash for a little while...........

Smash - Nothing fraudulent about providing patronage to support great skills.
Really looking forward to seeing the grille in place too.
Serious question:
- Will they be fitting a "slashed" end panel on the front bumpers?
Good luck,
Paul.
PS
No so serious question:
- What was Dick Van Dyke doing in their workshop??
Hope he gave you a rousing rendition of "Chim Chim Cher-ee".

I have had the VDP chrome process done on several FRP items.
Results were always poor to good and not very durable. They will, in time peel the chrome deposition right off. Better to use a 2K chrome paint. The VDP process is more expensive.

After they have been vacuum plated they are finished in 2k clear lacquer, otherwise they won't last.

We have tried to distract smash, even offered to walk up to the shops with him. He's having none of it!
I think hes moved a camp bed into the garden so he can sleep with the car.
However...its at Stoneleigh overnight...if I can only persuade the security there to let me in.

Seriously though I have a pair of chrome front bumpers (genuine shape-repo) but I'm not going to fit them till I can find a rear bumper to fit.
I am planning on going to all the classic autojumbles this year till I find a rear bumper.
The dimensions of the kalifornia are the same as the Koupe so they will fit.
With all you guys on here surely we can find a classic car that that has a chrome rear bumper that will fit. Any ideas?

How about mgb - the rear window comes from that so we must be close in size and availability is good.
Maybe use the front use the front bumper on the rear if you the curve might suit

Triumph 1300 (FWD), as also used on the Bond Equipe Mk2 and various Gilbert? It's in three parts for easy fettling.

It's been suggested before by someone with more imagination than me, but mk IV/1500 Spitfire bumpers look to be a possible source -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Sp...3D162025345985
The fronts would need cutting down to quarter bumpers and capping off on the inner ends, while the back one will probably need a section adding to widen it enough to fit. You might just be able to use the discarded section from the front for that though. The whole lot could then be chrome plated for a relatively reasonable price (anyone any idea how much that should cost?)
The ones on Smash's car do look the biz, so it's well worth going the extra mile to add this detail if you can.

Bear in mind the body is not symetrical and also if you're looking at genuine front quarters the mouth aperture is quite different to the real thing....

You would think there would be a market for a front curved pair of bumpers and a 3 piece extendable rear bumper that would fit all of the classic recreations and unusual old looking sports cars that are built and created?
If you can buy mini classic chromed bumpers for £40 each end then surely there is a demand for the bumpers we want which I personally would pay £300 each end?
I'm sure with all the classic cars in the world somewhere on some models(s) there is a perfect solution. We just have to find them...

I have a Sunbeam alpine and the bumpers are too short, so they are out. What about a Triumph Stag?
